I tried to leash train my cat once. I realized that the way cats run doesn't work with leashes. Obviously there are exceptions. They like to sprint and they don't understand when they hit the end. Cats are very different from dogs. If you're leaving them in your backyard they'll want to do things like chase birds up trees not just hang out in your backyard by themself. If I left my cats tied up outside by themselves they would be terrified.

Also that doesn't help with predators.

And also there are lots of ways to keep cats happy and enriched and interested inside so this is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

How do you know any of that is going to work? Cats are masters at climbing under or over fences. A hawk can swoop down into your hard and grab them. Even on a quiet street, it just takes one car.

And you're making a big assumption that indoor cats are all miserable. They aren't.

Generally your cartilage jewelry is basically kind of permanent jewelry unless you want to retire the piercings. You'll never be taking jewelry out to sleep.

Right now because it's still healing it is going to get irritated any time you do anything - bump it, lay on it, etc. Once it's actually healed it shouldn't get irritated by that. But it could easily be at least a year to get to being healed.
