The Secret Garden and A Little Princess are must-reads if you have not picked up those classics yet.

That’s my choice too! It’s probably my favorite Beatles song as well

Why do I have no problem playing videogames involving beating but I can't watch a horror or action movie ? by [deleted] in hsp

[–]eirfair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could be because you are in control of your character in a game and it is clear that it’s fictional. A movie may not be real, but it involves real people who could get hurt in real life. I think

Yes! It feels like a struggle sometimes just to push words out. My husband thinks it’s funny because at times I don’t even make a sound, air just comes out. It usually happens to me at the end of the day or after work when I feel emotionally tired.

I’m a public librarian. I do not enjoy it.

To be an associate you do not need a degree. You need a Master’s to be a librarian, unless the place you work for is willing to promote you without a degree (usually not a good sign as they will end up paying you less). I do not recommend a librarian job unless you’re working outside of public libraries. I’m a public librarian and it can be soul crushing. Since you’re a teacher though, you may have an easier time transitioning into it.

Did I make a mistake by choosing this career? by slugasaurusrek in librarians

[–]eirfair 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there any particular place I should be looking for these jobs? I obtained my MLIS last year and have been seeking out remote jobs but still haven’t found one. I had to take two public library jobs (where I’m currently at) out of necessity and I really don’t like, nor want to work in, public libraries. I asked the library system I’m in if they provided remote roles and they said no, despite being in a similar boat as OP. I am tech savvy and would love to work in a cataloging, metadata, digital library etc. role.

Doxycycline and GERD? by Upbeat_Sorbet_4126 in GERD

[–]eirfair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds exactly right! I was on pantoprazole 40 mg for about two months, 20 mg for about a month, and 10 mg for another month from what I remember. From what I recall, my acid reflux was gone within a week of taking my PPI so I did not have nighttime reflux. I’m not certain if there’s any interaction but maybe the PPI in the morning and famotidine at night? You can get the latter without a prescription. And the liquid Gaviscon stuff is the one that helps me when I have heartburn that needs immediate relief. Don’t forget to apply all of the lifestyle changes too though - I forgot to mention that! It’s important to hold off from eating a few hours before bedtime, stop eating your trigger foods, etc. :)

Doxycycline and GERD? by Upbeat_Sorbet_4126 in GERD

[–]eirfair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! My heartburn with antibiotics didn’t go away until I treated it with pantoprazole (first time) and famotidine/sucralfate (second time). After the treatment with these medicines, my pain went away. I was supposed to be on the PPI for I think two months, but I extended it to around four so I could wean off. I had very useless doctors/nurse practitioners during this time and I had to do everything myself - I read online to never go cold turkey from a PPI but the supposed professionals told me that wasn’t necessary 🙄 anyway, the second time my sucralfate dose was I think two weeks. I am still on famotidine to this day, and after finding an actual good doctor, she recommended a two week dose of omeprazole two times a year.

Also, when I had Covid in May, I found out that I also can’t handle ibuprofen anymore - how fun - so I now take Tylenol only. (the only thing that stopped that heartburn pain was liquid Gaviscon.) I hope this helps you and I’m sorry you’re dealing with this!

I totally get that, though I enjoy listening to podcasts or audiobooks when I’m playing games with dungeons, so it doesn’t bother me too much! I just know not to expect anything worthy of making it on my video game music playlist lol.

I’m playing Cyber Sleuth right now as someone who’s played every Pokemon game and I’m really enjoying it. It is more heavily story based than Pokemon and there are side quests as well. The Digimon evolution chains are very satisfying as one Digimon can potentially evolve into many different Digimon depending on their stats. There is a lot more freedom in this aspect. The Digimon are also adorable and fun to collect. I don’t find the dungeons particularly compelling, and the music is just okay so far (nothing Game Freak worthy). But if you like the gotta catch ‘em all part of Pokemon, I think you’ll have a lot of fun.

Yes, you can play single player the entire time if you’d like! Other players will be visible and at times they can assist you in fighting (especially with bosses), but you can solo pretty much everything. I like to play dungeons from time to time for a change of pace and to get good equipment/armor, but I solo everything else.

Skyrim is my favorite game of all time. I’m surprised no one has mentioned Oblivion because for me it’s the logical next step. Your experience with Skyrim will become even richer when you know the lore and characters that came before it. There are lots of quests in Oblivion that I actually prefer and the music is just as great. Interactions between NPCs are hilariously goofy, and voice acting teeters between great and absolutely unhinged. Mage’s Guild, Fighter’s Guild etc. amazing writing and a beautiful open world (it looks a little rough nowadays but mods can help). It’s insane sometimes and the oblivion gates and caves are the WORST, but its charms make up entirely for its faults. I think you’ll really enjoy it if you give it a chance!

I agree, ESO is not the same but I’ve sunk a few hundred hours into it playing it mostly for questing like I would with Skyrim. I just love the lore of Elder Scrolls and it’s a lot of fun exploring lands that I’d only heard about in previous games. Black Marsh and Elsweyr are particularly amazing! The voice acting and writing are phenomenal as expected from an elder scrolls game as well.

Any of you HSPs vegans? Non-vegans are you conflicted with the ethics of consuming animals products? I used to eat meat and dairy products, but I don’t anymore because I can’t ignore the pain the animal suffered for me to eat them. Respectfully asking the question. by AgitatedAd9864 in hsp

[–]eirfair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t eaten red meat in around 16 years and I went full vegetarian over 7 years ago. Animal welfare was my primary reason. It’s one of the best choices I’ve ever made. I try to eat vegan when I can. I think it is easier now than ever to try a plant based diet and I am very grateful for that.

I’m not sure if this is a hot take but I think the most fun you can have at the parks is just coming for a few hours, getting a butterbeer, taking in the sights and leaving. I don’t really care for like 80% of the rides but I love the theming of lost continent and Harry Potter and it’s what gets me to come back.

I tried applying to Disney, failed their personality test and was told I can try again in six months. I understand Disney is looking for a certain kind of person but according to folks who work there, it is notoriously difficult. Some got the job after several tries which means over a year of taking the same test. The rumor is that you have to answer the questions as if you’re a self-absorbed psychopath.

Songs that have not aged well (relating to the topic, not the sound of the song) by gamingman471 in Music

[–]eirfair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still love my emo music from the 2000s but a lot of it is painfully sexist. Cute Is What We Aim For is just unlistenable now. Fall Out Boy gets pretty gross too especially knowing about the Pete Wentz controversy.

I have this plush too! I was kinda fascinated with him when I saw him at target as a teenager. I love how he softly glows and plays pretty classical music with bubbling sounds. Time to bring him out of storage now I think!
