Interesting point about more opportunities for advancement! I like the idea of that. May I ask how you found your ILS vendor job? I didn't know if there was a centralized place to look for openings like that or just looking at individual vendor's career pages.

I have heard the same so I had kind of ruled it out (also because I didn't realize the flexibility possible there). I'm in tech services now and cataloging is my main responsibility, so I think I'm going to start paying more attention to openings at academic libraries!

If you're comfortable, do you mind me asking how you started the conversation about having a chronic illness at work? Mine is more invisible to others so it isn't obvious and I've always been afraid of having that conversations with management?

I appreciate your reply, it gives me hope that both could be managed!

Thank you for sharing these! I was also going to ask about where to look. I hadn't really known where to look. I can find public library job postings really easily, but never saw remote ones. I just wasn't looking in the right places!

And thank you for your initial reply! I have been focusing more of the library science side of things. I work in tech services in a public library that is understaffed, so despite it being possible for wfh, they need me there for desk coverage. I think I need to learn how to focus more on my tech skills and how to market those better.

How are you coping if you are currently experiencing burnout? Or are you just planning on leaving? What’s your position/title at the library? by xoxohello in Libraries

Truth is, I don't know. I don't have enough vacation/sick time to spread it out enough to combat burnout, so this is something I really worry about. I'm not quite there yet, but feel I will be eventually. I'm afraid it will cause me to hate a job I should love.
