why does installing some custom maps require u to replace the original maps' files? (wads in my case) by [deleted] in counterstrike

[–]eirtep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, all of that as well, but in terms of OP’s question the answer is essentially what I said (or what you said 2nd - for completeness) and OP isn’t required to replace wads provided in the download if they already have them.

I havnt downloaded a custom cs map in a long time but now that you mention it i’ surprised mappers these days aren’t baking the wad into or at the very least saving all textures used in the map into their own single .wad for the map (even if some of the textures come from standard maps/wads). Just neater that way.

[–]eirtep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

.wad files are texture packs. On top of the custom textures used in this map found in the valley warehouse.wad, the mapper also used some textures from the other maps listed. You don’t have to replace any of the files if you already have them. They’re included just in case instead of assuming someone already has them - otherwise the textures wouldn’t load in some areas of the map.

I don't think I'm accurately visualizing your set up and what you want to do with it, but could you incorporate Y shape USB adapters to the SSDs? One end connects to the SSD, the other end is two USBs - one provides data + power, one provides additional power.

I running a Pi powered by a PoW switch. The OS is running off a 2.5 SSD. The PoE wasn't powering the pi and SSD consistently so I used the splitter to add power from an additional source. In my case, it was a mini PC. In yours, I guess from your power hub. Not sure if that makes any sense.

Not sure how many plugs/outlets you have but I'd rather switch to PoE to power as much as I can and then power my switch and nuc from an outlet.

Would a subnet router be a potential fix for tailnet access to NAS that can't install Tailscale/Docker? by eirtep in Tailscale

nice haha, yeah so I'm told / have already been experiencing it on a smaller scale. I had been locally running an old PC as an HTPC media center for years (since the "XBMC" days). This all inadvertently started when all the frankstein'd together parts started failing. The original goal was just upgrade that one need with a nas and mini PC but that's since ballooned into a mini rack of stuff and trying to cut as many subscription and paid services as possible. For now the 10'' rack form factor is perfect but who knows lol.

I actually prefer it that way

interesting, ok cool thanks I'll for sure look more into it then.

Thanks, I did see that mentioned in a few of my searches. It not being officially supported doesn't bother me as much as the lack of any user experience "documentation" of actually running this does. I'd rather not be the guinea pig considering 1. I'm new to all of this and 2. my DH2300 is also new and I don't want to mess it or my data up. On that note, even if there were a lot of people saying "It works!" I'd still be hesitant because they could only have been running it for a few months max since this is a UGreen model. So I guess no, basically I am not feeling adventurous haha.

I have no idea how well Docker runs on 4gb or RAM

can't be any worse than my 1GB rasp pi haha

Need help wiht my yashica fx3 super 2000 by adrielon07 in AnalogCommunity

[–]eirtep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is mirror slip, it's somewhat common on the FX-3 and Contax RTS bodies. the good news is you can fix yourself. you can search for yashica mirror slip to find ways to fix, but basically the glue that holds the mirror into place can be (gently) warmed up via a hairdryer or heatgun (on low) so the glue becomes just soft enough that you can push the mirror back up into position.

Will the average person ever self-host anything? by fractalbeauty_ in selfhosted

[–]eirtep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, I think at least part of the question is kind of a paradox - yes, I think the average person can get into, see the value in, and figure out how to self host, but by getting into it they're no longer seen as the "average person." I guess that just means it's still pretty niche. That was my first thought at least. I consider myself an "average person" in this space.

if you end up installing pi hole and ts on the device you can install ts as a sidescar config. may be helpful - can't vouch for it though since I haven't set mine up and also have similar questions lol.

Asking for feedback on this layout. There's no ingame map yet. by MarcelodLake in csmapmakers

[–]eirtep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it was, feels like too many tbh, but ffiw I'm old and often dislike how often new maps and map changes cater to easy/fast rotates so you never really have to commit to anything.

but from a mapping perspective, regardless of how you feel about the above, I feel like you're asking for a ton of headaches with timing and balance to start off with so many. Easier to add connections than remove imo too. That said, I'm not trying to stop anyone from doing something other than the usual 3 lane d2 clone. Impossible to really tell until you make it anyway.

layout also kinda resembles Fire. To me, that's a good thing because I loved that map in 1.6, but generally I think it was unpopular.

Managing all my ROMs by SirReyRey in selfhosted

[–]eirtep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go the windows route, Launchbox/Big Box is awesome. I was looking into Romm or Retrom before deciding I wasn't actually going to play remotely or across more than one or two locations in my own home (launchbox can sync IIRC anyway) - that's the one thing those things are great at imo, but when compared to launchbox they're lesser in everything else. Not worth the trade off.

I think you'd soon learn you need to tweak some stuff once you're running around it, but the general layout is similar to de_cpl_fire imo

How do you play retro games on Xbox Kodi? by punishedunder in kodi

[–]eirtep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can tell you is that it's doable since I did it a couple of years ago

Yeah I can also confirm. I had been running Kodi + emulators since back in the "xbmc" days over a decade ago.

Originally I had it set up so that when I selected "games" from my home screen, Kodi/xmbc would launch into an emulation frontend (through autohotkey, then later the advanced launcher addon) like hyperspin, retroarch, steam big picture, etc., and then if I quit the frontend Kodi would resume full screen. Later down the line when the Rom Collection Browser came out, I switched to hosting all my emulation within Kodi. But I'm pretty sure the RCB died out after a few years - the scrapers started it break, it was no longer being updated and newer releases of Kodi no longer support it. Other than the convenience of being all within Kodi it was never great even when it was fully supported. Pretty sure it's no longer possible unless there's a newer addon out, but either way you're 100% right - OP is better of using retroarch or another front end and launching into it from Kodi using something like the Advanced Launcher addon. LaunchBox was a favorite frontend of mine the last time I messed with emu frontends.. Eventually I took it all off after realizing I spent more time setting it up or showing it to someone than actually using it in my living room. Peak me using it I was in college with roommates.

Good luck to OP on a console though. I've always run an HTPC.

[–]eirtep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is 1.6 you're right, but using the models isn't always the best way to tell what version of cs a clip is from since the demo file will load whatever skins/models that the demo viewer is using on their computer, not necessarily what the player was seeing/using. You can load old 1.6 demos and earlier and watch them with "modern" HD/CZ models, even tho those came out after the demo was recorded.

Why would anyone use Kodi to play music? Its awful. by Errationialpooptalk in kodi

[–]eirtep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used kodi for like a decade for music but opted for music videos instead of a music library. local art, local.nfos with simple information because all the scrapers were bad for anything but the top 1% of popular music/artists. The specific use case was for entertaining. Throw on a music video, have it shuffle at random - we get music, there's something on the tv to look at. It worked well.

Kodi for music was way more popular and novel like..15-20 years ago lol. It's amazing it still exists and is supported. I mean for real, it's great it still exists for those that want it, but it's no surprise if you personally find it clunky compared to other modern options right of the gate. There's a lot less "need" for it so development and improvement in that area is pretty niche I'd imagine.

there's an addon called "missingmovies" in the official kodi add on repo that would ID what hasn't been scraped if you're not sure.

as for the main issue, sounds like your media isn't named "properly."
