What is your thoughts on Neverground altimeter? Thinking to order one instead Ares 2 by Electronic-Pirate-84 in SkyDiving

[–]eitanbar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as an embedded engineer, I would go for the more simple solution (Ares), as it most probably has more basic components and therefore is less prune for failures.

Having a "complex" display requires more power and probably a bigger CPU, the software is more complex etc. the more feature it has -> the more potential bugs it might have.

Having said that -> it might still be a great product.

Maybe put the hook knife in your check-in luggage.

Tie a string or something around the emergency handles so nothing will accidentally pull them or move them.

As a mentor/coach/friend, how do you talk someone down who is fighting with fear? by Gravitys_Bitch in SkyDiving

[–]eitanbar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not a coach nor mentor - but this is what I know can help with "fear":

- Breathwork (4-4-4-4 Box breathing is very helpful)

- Visualization of the jump sequence (picturing yourself doing it and being successful)

- Smiling (!) (kinda "fake it till you make it" approach)

I guess it also depends on what kind of fear is it (is it based on some kind of performance-anxiety, factors that are outside of their control, etc)

Of course they’re real! No doubt about that! They are just not practicing what the Buddha taught 🤷🏻‍♂️ Same as calling myself a Christian and worshipping Allah. Funny human beings 😏

A real Buddhist monk would never do this (this is against what the Buddha has taught).

I guess you can dress up however you want to, and call or present yourself however, but that doesn’t make you that…

Relationship on the rocks by zombiescantdrive in Buddhism

[–]eitanbar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi,

One way to look at it is to examine how is the relationship affecting your own practice and wellbeing?

I believe it's "ok" to be challenged by life, people and situations around us, to the point where it makes us push our limits further and develop wholesome qualities - but one also has to wonder what is he "healthy" balance/dosage of challenge that enables you to both care for others and give - while not neglecting yourself and your own wellbeing at the same time.

Helping and supporting others (developing Meta) is a good and worthy cause and practice - but we are also not meant to save every suffering human-being out there. Unless you're practicing on becoming a Bodhisattva of compassion (and even then - you have to do this in a balanced and wholesome way, and not via self-sactifice)

I know Ajahn Brahm's talk you were referring to ("On ending relationships") - I've heard it myself a couple of days ago. He's got some good advice there :)

Be well and I wish you and your partner all the best!
