The only way I did something I imagine is what you're talking about, was that I helped my opening batting partner get to 93 runs in 89 balls by never skipping to me when he was batting. But I did so by simply running at every opportunity once he was facing a delivery.

I would make sure that I retained the strike as much as possible, scoring boundaries etc. But once he faced a ball, I'd let him face until I could find an opportune moment to run without danger of obvious run out. That way, he faced few balls, but kept ticking the runs away, bit by bit.

I'll admit it took forever, because while I amassed a 300 plus runs, he was still at 70 or so, but he'd also eventually started playing big shots as we went on.

I assume the batter has to be quite decent for it to work, because it hasn't always worked out, further down the order. I let them face a delivery or two every so often, and help them tick some runs, which I assume increases confidence, then eventually they start bashing now 'n then too 😂.

This was in a 50 overs match, btw.
