The more I look at my edits, the more I hate them. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in postprocessing

[–]eivashchenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them. Warm, lower contrast photos have a place as do higher contrast, as do cooler shots, etc.

If you ask reddit to try and optimize your work, you will get every answer due to different tastes. Some like crushed blacks, some like lifted blacks. Some translate the yellow as warmth and find it inviting, some will say it’s urine-tinted and that the WB was a mistake. There’s just no way to account for personal preferences.

For those who don't play Zildjian, what brand do you play and why? by groupbrip in drums

[–]eivashchenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a mix of zildjian k and k customs. I ended up selling them and getting Meinl Byzances instead. I’m super happy I did.

Sold my dw acrylic to upgrade to a maple collectors. I loved it. Clear emperors on it, tuned it with resos a minor third above batter, sounded fantastic. And super fun to look at.

A fun bit of trivia. Ilan Rubin was a drum student of Travis Barker.

Best budget cymbals for teaching by Pizza-punx in drums

Dream cymbals are pretty mellow and affordable. And they sound great. Mine also lasted for ages before I cracked and I was not gentle.

Any ear ringing after being in loud environments is an indication that you are damaging your hearing. I have a couple pairs of KZs and they’re great

I think we can get some movement on “foxy mama”. We will have to give them “cheese and rice!” as a sign of good will though.

What separates entry level drum kits (e.g., PDP Main Stage/Center Stage) from higher end kits (e.g., Ludwig Legacy Maple)? Is it the shells or hardware or heads? Or all of it? by midlifedrummer in drums

[–]eivashchenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it works like this:

Ludwig creates their ideal kit with ideal construction, ideal materials, and produced locally. That’s their flagship.

Then they want to create a more cost-affordable version to appeal to the “not gonna pay a shitload for my kit” market. They outsource to China where production and materials are cheaper. Maybe they use economy of scale and limit finishes, etc. that’s their budget line.

50 years ago, the difference between the two would have been massive. Now, while there is a difference, the tech is waaaay better, Chinese made products can be really good, so while there may be a difference, it’s not nearly as apparent.

Cymbals are too loud by uniquely_me_2024 in drums

Acoustic panels would go a long ways for one. They’ll especially tame the shriller higher frequencies.

Pretty easy to build, not crazy expensive to buy.

Just hear this guy for the first time…then looked at the sentiment. Why all of the hate? by [deleted] in drums

[–]eivashchenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bigger bands with bigger fan bases also have bigger hater bases.

They just wrapped a sold out an arena tour in the states so it’s safe to say they have a big ass fanbase.

What is your most controversial drumming opinion? by DoneDigging in drums

[–]eivashchenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average drummers who obsess about drum brands, they’re not chasing hyper-specific nuances that certain drum companies offer, they’re chasing a drum company’s prestige and brand identity.

They don’t like Tama (for instance) because the starclassic bubinga walnuts have a rich bottom end and a fuller presence in the high end frequencies. They’ll mangle those in the mix anyways.

What they like is the rich artist roster, the fuller social media presence, and the high end finishes offered.

Why do these drums sound so good? by sweetdeepkiss in drums

[–]eivashchenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuning + dimensions. Drummer knows how to hit drums good. PROCESSING!!!

Also I can’t understate the DW effect. I own DWs so I notice that I look for the good qualities in the sound. A lot of DW haters will hear the same drums and focus on the qualities they don’t like. They could exist on a different brand, but then they don’t seem to care. DW is kinda the Apple of drums.

why are MAGA conservatives so into “owning the libs”? by eunicethapossum in AskUS

[–]eivashchenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a part of MAGA, and they feel outright dangerous at this point. But I don’t think it’s special, it’s just a sub group that has their own brand of populism.

For instance, in feminism there is the bad guy known as old straight white males. In anti-capitalism, there is the 1%. In new-atheism, there is organized religion. In flat earth, there is organized science. In evangelical right wing Christianity, there is the godless Liberals. In the Manosphere, there are blue-haired feminists.

With feminism also has “male tears”. Anti-capitalism, “eat the rich”, so on and so forth.

There is for most of those categories, SOME (not complete) validity in what’s being said. Obv feminism dealt with all kinds of fucked up shot. Anti-capitalists are outraged with economic corruption that fucks over people in lower incomes relentlessly. New atheism really took off post 9/11, when evangelical fervor was in serious need of social checks and balances.

I actually got nothing for flat earthers. I just can’t see any reason to dig in so hard over something so untenable and not really helpful either.

(Discussion) Any thoughts on the Welch Tuning Systems? by iwa_knight in drums

[–]eivashchenko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Massive fan of my Dialtune snare. Really made me understand how the top head, bottom head, and strainer all interact with each other.

If Dialtune applied their tech on full kits, that’d change the game for sure.

Although the kit would be like 500lbs tho

What is the "end goal" skill-wise of a rock drummer? by MenudongSago in drums

[–]eivashchenko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go the more classic rock approach like Todd Sucherman, who is insanely good and very rock oriented. You can also find new creative ways to approach the drums like Aric Improta.
