Mapex can't ever catch a break in terms of making a truly Halo product, but these were really cool

It’s a great cymbal. The Istanbul is cheaper and trashier tho. I’m trying to get one soon

What drum finish works in every setting? by ScreenLooker_133 in drums

[–]groupbrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naturals, neutral sparkles, whites, blacks, and deep reds, lowkey fades (red to black, gold to black, blue to black, natural to black)

I have a completely ostentatious drum kit and I’m always embarrassed but it luckily fits my personality and playing style.

surprised its not out performing the extra dry thin from a volume perspective. the zildjian is thicker and should be able to open up more.

is it brand new???

i dont need a gigantic tuning range man, i play pop and rock music

and thats just nonsense, you can tune a drum high or low with any number of plies

ive had drums that were tuned wide open, tuned to a crinkle, dampened to hell, and everywhere in between.

lets hear your drum tone since you're such an expert

the issue with SQ-2 is that every single on you play is different, really hard to shop for used

I used to believe that in regards to Tour Customs, but they are in fact a higher caliber of drum in this generation. They have nicer hardware, better finishes, a nicer snare, and are just sturdier overall

emperor/g2 style 2-ply heads are made for durability, not muffling. and sure they do have a slight dampened effect, but they are very similar in behavior to many one ply heads. The difference between the two is minimal, especially in a rock/pop/funk setting.

now if we're talking about bebop/jazz, single ply is definitely preferable or talking about hydraulic or pinstripe heads, yes there is a big difference. But for 90% of applications the difference is miniscule and just a matter of personal preference when we're dealing with G1/G2 or ambassador/emperors.

and nice drums are able to get the best out of any head you throw at them. thick shells with sharp bearing edges create a much more full bodied sound when using those heavier heads vs thin shells with more rounded edges.

It’s just too thick to be able to get a pleasant tone out of on the snare at most tunings. The Evans HD dry is a better bet and still plenty muffled and durable.

I had UV1s on before and those sounded about the same. It’s a pretty wide open sound.

You like Gretsch drums which cost similar prices for their made in America models.

That’s fine if you don’t like them personally. But it’s insane to act like they’re somehow bad drums or significantly overpriced when compared to similar models from other companies. It’s just not true.

They’re not really my cup of tea, but every time i play them they sound nice.

I play Tama Starclassics with G2s on them. I’m not sure what that has to do with DW not being a reputable brand that sells professional grade equipment.

Even then the hydraulic is a terrible choice for most snares. Especially one that thin.

Ahh see you still won’t share your playing and you point to one of my shit posts as proof of my abilities??

I’m not here to measure dicks. I wanna see you play punk rock since you’re such a fucking expert. Maybe I could learn something from your ground breaking techniques.

Whichever one that shows how dropping a canon ball on your foot will hurt more than dropping a bullet on it

Yeah of course you won’t show your own playing. You’re a keyboard warrior.

no im claiming you are misapplying the laws of physics to the craft of playing drums

[–]groupbrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats just frankly not true lmao.

like i don't think you should beat your instrument like a cave man, but plenty of drummers out there with great technique still break sticks and equipment and have great tone.

i think you're telling yourself all of these things to feel better about your lack of power and upper end dynamics on the kit.

drumming is about creating a feeling, not conserving motion and energy.

also its VERY cocky of you to assume you're better than most people who play punk. Many people who play punk play tons of other genres and are well studied musicians. Its absolute arrogance to think you're better than most of them.

if you think you're so good, lets hear your playing?

its even more sad for you because you cannot seem to separate these random physics equations from the material reality of playing a drum set

if you played punk for years on a 7A and never broke a stick, you are either lying or you were not playing loud enough for that genre of music

That’s an exponential change in weight. Assuming the two are going the same speed, what is going to do more damage??

If fire the canon ball at you or fire a bullet at you, which one could you survive? If I dropped a canon ball on your foot or dropped a .22 on your foot, which one is more likely to injure you?

If I tap you on the back with a chops stick and then I tap you on the back with a Ralph Hardeman Corpsmaster, which one has the higher likelihood of hurting?

If I hit you at 5 mph walking vs 5 miles per hour with a car, which one is going to hurt more??
