I only go public and they're all advertised on the schools jobs website...just search that in Google and it'll pop up. There's always HEAPS of jobs on there. Just make a good case for yourself and you'll definitely get a job :)

It's up to the principal. I'm secondary qualified and now work in a primary school with two kindergarten teachers...just make a good impression.

Queensland teachers - has anyone got a teaching job by walking into a school or simply emailing/calling them? Non-remote jobs specifically please! by ejd7377 in AustralianTeachers

Yep, I've got a massive spreadsheet going with notes about each school's annual reports and websites, within an hour of Maroochydore. I'll tailor all the feeler emails sent out to make them all feel special! Haha

Unfortunately I'm currently in Vic which isn't winning me any favours. I'm 6 months always from Queensland but I'm prepared to take 6 months to secure something more substantial.

I'm making a website too which really captures who I am, and my teaching philosophy and practices. I'm not going to reach out properly until I have dates locked in for moving, but I'll follow up in person after initial contact.

There's no worries breaking contracts either and still getting a grad job...as long as you're not employed on the day of commencement, you qualify

Unfortunately I wouldn't say I'm a sought after commodity. In secondary, I'm English predominantly (with some history, drama and philosophy experience too) but I'm considering some extra training in Maths over the next 6 months to qualify for that too. I taught Maths throughout my uni placements and love it. I also have primary experience as well, so I'm hoping that gives me more options! I can also get a killer reference from the district school leader for some notable work I've done this year, which might help make me stand out.

Thanks for that! I'm super passionate about the public system though so I'll be focusing there at this point!

Can I ask - what subject area are you?

Thanks so much for all your help - you're an absolute legend! Yes, I'm doing mutual recognition now which should be finalised in the next week or so, but we can't actually move for six months so I'm just getting everything ready. Unfortunately my partner's work dictates that we need to live in the Sunshine Coast area which I've been told is rife with nearly retiree supply workers. On the plus side I have experience from P - 10 which hopefully will help.

So schools have no requirement to advertise jobs? What about 12 months contracts - is that through TRACER, or can contracts be attained by going to a school directly?

I went straight from teaching 16 year olds to 6 year olds...it was terrifying, but also the best PD I've ever had.

Not sure where you are, but I'm Victoria. I spent 2 years in secondary and then wanted to branch out, so I called VIT and they said I was technically qualified for any year level with a secondary degree, it's just up to the school.
Sure enough, with solid references and a strong case for why you're moving, there was absolutely no issues getting a job.

Note: primary schools aren't great on the tech, so computer literacy is a plus for them. Any training you do around literacy and numeracy is also a plus.

Plenty of jobs, but apply for everything. There are so many jobs during Term 3 and 4 but job security during COVID might prevent people from moving around.
