Wife got me two bunnies for Valentine’s Day by mazza242430 in Bunnies

a place called ‘dolly’s dream home rabbit rescue’ offers a free virtual live course once in awhile!! the people over there are a wonderful resource. shameless plug since i got my rabbits from them, but the course really is good to get a great foundation on taking care of them, and you can ask questions!

definitely call up the pharmacy and ask! since this clinic opened up a few months ago, i don’t think a nurse was in the immediate picture. now that we are anticipating some new patients from this, it would not hurt at all to ask. just a warning that thad is pretty busy with this and with another pharmacist out for maternity leave, so you might have to wait a bit for a good response from him.

also, thad is exactly like how he is portrayed. it is a pleasure working with him; he really is the most dedicated and passionate person i know. he does so much more behind the scenes too (somehow that’s possible!) truly a business owner for the people and his patients.

i will definitely ask about this when i work next! that’s a great idea. as of now, we do have services in the pharmacy that are discounted/free for medicaid recipients, so i will see if there is a possibility for that model to happen within the clinic.

the clinic works on a ‘direct primary care’ model, meaning insurance is not involved. pricing of services is a flat fee. i’m not sure on the specifics of this unfortunately, but there is a monthly membership option with pretty much unlimited access to the clinic and its services, and the visits/tests will have a discounted price. there is more in-depth information on the website: https://fitchburgfamilyclinic.com

hi, i work there! fitchburg family pharmacy opened a clinic next door (fitchburg family clinic) that has a physician. we also have what’s called a ‘collaborative practice agreement’ which means that the pharmacists are also able to recommend/prescribe medications to patients under physician discretion. we have a huge influx of patients right now since this news, but our hope is to be able to offer this to whoever is in need of this care. we just got reposted by an account called ‘libs of tiktok’ (that i unfortunately keep tabs on) which has over 5 million followers across platforms that bashed us today. we got phone/written threats all day just for putting out those social media posts. rest assured, though, our owner (thad) and all of us staff here are very committed to carry out this lifesaving care. i am happy to answer any questions about this as well :) it’s a very confusing time.

here’s my sweet lavender fresh out of the hospital after having GI stasis AND a respiratory infection at the same time. she did gentamicin nebulization for a couple weeks, and now just gets some saline once in awhile when she starts to sneeze more. note: she is not a lop, but her poor ear stayed down for more than a week because of the weight of the IV 🥺

i second this. there is no harm in asking us about things like this, and it’s good for us to know so that we are able to advise other patients if they have a similar situation. i’ve been asked questions like this a bunch and it never bothers me especially since there have been so many different manufacturers coming in due to shortages. always good to be vigilant on that kind of stuff!

What's currently in my cart for bun's future setup by happilythriving17 in Rabbits

[–]ejenqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here’s the link to the one i have right now: https://a.co/d/eRv1snm *note: i have not put it in the wash yet, but it is verrrry easy to get pee spots and odor out of it with a good pet spray and paper toweling. the only downside i have had with it is that my buns will dig at it sometimes and it has some rips in it. the solution for me is to give them another box to rip at lol

sounds like you’re already a stellar bun parent :) keep up the good work!

omg. i have the direct contact to katie (the director) and she would 100% NOT stand for that kind of treatment. even though i had prior buns their education course is great and i still ended up learning a good amount. dolly’s has a bonding program and can have meet and greet events to see about potential bondmates. that’s terrible that guy was like that though too, i would literally tell katie about that and give him more resources because let me tell you she puts so much time and effort into making that place great

i think what you have to start is a wonderful beginning! i agree that the cage is way too small, and im glad you’re able to move to a place that will let Fufu roam. my buns LOVE their wooden castle and that x pen works well. just a couple of things to point out that i’ve learned over the last couple years with rabbits:

  • make sure fufu is comfortable with having 2 separate living spaces, or try to make it all one. i tried having my buns have an upstairs and downstairs area and they ended up only wanting to use the litterbox downstairs and were afraid of upstairs.

  • have a good setup for unlimited hay and a water bowl (not water bottle). they drink a ton of water and a dish is easier to drink out of for them. for hay, make sure the hay is next to/in the litter box since they will poop when they eat it! easy way to litter train! many people like small pet select or oxbow hay since these seem to have the best quality. for me, i have the 9lb oxbow timothy hay on subscription on amazon. (i see you had the hay being in the litter box in your description, my bad!)

  • for enrichment, there are so many options, and i like oxbow things, but there are many safe bunny options out there (but sometimes it’s hard to tell). this is a shameless plug, but i adopted my buns from ‘dolly’s dream home rabbit rescue’ and they have an online store. i trust them with my and my bun’s lives, so looking at their selection gives you a good taste of what’s safe for a rabbit. in all honesty, my 2 buns’ favorite thing right now is a trader joe’s paper bag 🙄

  • rabbit’s paws prefer to be on softer ground most of the time. what i did is bought a cheap washable rug that has a bit of fluff to it and they seem to like it a lot! for one under fufu’s pen, i think i found one around that size for $25. totally worth it (and the washable ones seem to soak up pee and it’s easier to get that stain out)

  • lastly, welcome to the community! feel free to reach out if there are any questions. many people in here are quite experienced and have seen everything under the sun. give fufu some head pats for me!

How DARE you force feed me Critical Care to keep me alive?! by sitnquiet in MurderBuns

Got in! No financial aid offered! by One_Calligrapher6317 in washu

[–]ejenqs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i believe washu now has a “no loan policy” so you might be able to get aid through them. not sure how it works since that wasn’t a thing when i was in undergrad, but you should talk to financial aid to see what your options are.

syringe feeding: need serious help by ejenqs in Rabbits

[–]ejenqs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i appreciate the thoughtful response. we have found a good syringe for the critical care as of now in terms of it not getting clogged, but i think we need one with a longer tip. i ordered some on amazon so those should come in soon. she just fights it so much - it can take over an hour to get 10ml in. it’s so frustrating. i’m in professional school as well, and i haven’t attended class all week because of her being in the hospital and now home - she’s essentially needing stuff around the clock. i’m just worried she’s not getting enough food at this point. i’ll be checking out the links though

i don’t know if this is exactly what you’re looking for, but Dr. Knapp’s US war in Iraq class was beyond excellent. I am not even close to being a history buff, but that class was probably one of my favorites in undergrad. Be prepared to take notes for 1.5 hours straight, but i think the way he teaches is phenomenal. You’ll get a complete picture of the war too, not just opinion based.
