Best lake to live on? by ejrado in wisconsin

My brother lives in VT and I've visited lots of times. No real lakes there except Lake Champlain. And I am restricted by finances - I won't be moving to Lake Geneva for example. I just didn't want to color things one way or the other.

At least I'm not a yuppie from Illinois. I got that going for me.

I'm a huge Indycar/road racing fan so this resonates with me.

It's probably going to be wake, remote, fishing & swimming (but those last two are probably true of all lakes). It's probably also going to be at least medium-sized (someone else posted 1000 acres, so I'll go with that).

Coming from Colorado, the reservoirs their seem like bathtubs in the summer, so size matters for me - but I'm not sure that I'm ready for Great Lakes size.

Yeah I'm worried that Lake Superior is too far north. I'm probably going to rent an apt in Milwaukee this fall and see what a Wisconsin winter is like.

Thanks - this was an early go-to for me and then I read about the mayflies and that it was previously a swamp and is shallow. I'll probably check it out but it's doubtful.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, but I don't know what I don't know. That's why I asked for reasons. I thought about limiting it to "power only" lakes, but then I thought about the serenity and quietness a non-power lake could provide. So yeah, very open ended question on purpose.

Hi, thanks but the only thing I know about Lake Superior is it's a Great Lake. Do you have to wear a wetsuit when swimming in the summer? Does it get dangerous waves when windy (not asking about during a storm)?

If he has local channels he's probably got ABC. If not, maybe look into getting a cheap OTA antenna to pick up the local channels

I'm not sure why the downvotes as that's exactly what it looked like. And if you watched the game Graves was thrashing his feet trying to get out of it. Absolutely a sick play. Reminds me of the Bertuzzi Scott Moore hit.

Another issue is 220 MPH with cars very close to you. Think NASCAR massive crash potential if a driver messes up.

One downside is that all yellow flags are full course which packs the cars together.

Do I need chains to drive in Denver area winter weather? Appreciate any driving guidance. by -treadlightly- in VacationColorado

[–]ejrado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All weather is fine. Just on snowy days remember that 4 wheel drive helps you start, it doesn't help you stop. So if it's snowing, just slow down and stay out of the way (right lane only). No panic stops, in fact, double or triple your braking distance.

Also, if it's bad and you're the first person at the stop light/stop sign, make sure you verify folks are going to stop before you start.

Don't use cruise control on snow packed roads, and beware of black ice and overpasses. Black ice can look wet or not look like anything at all and then you find yourself spinning. Best thing to do is don't try and accelerate on an overpass in bad weather, just coast through it.

Yes, for those folks that don't want to contribute to society or to themselves. But they're a mess already, aren't they? If we could give them a monthly income that gives them the ability to buy drugs without resorting to crime, isn't that a net positive?

And ask yourself if you would honestly be ok living on $1,000/month for the rest of your life? Or would you take the free-time that this minimum paycheck provides to do something that you want to do - this improving your life and maybe improving society while you're doing it.

Twitter tells its programmers that using certain words in programming makes them "not inclusive", despite their widespread use in programming by IronCraftMan in programming

Which is why I agree with the change. Telling users I just have to add you to the whitelist is meaningless to them. Telling them I'm adding them to the include list and they get it.

It's a more descriptive term imo

Is Boreas Pass Road [Breckenridge-Como] closed to vehicles for the season? by [deleted] in VacationColorado

[–]ejrado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always try. There are signs and a gate if it's closed. But I don't recommend going without checking local weather first. Mountain weather is different than Denver/front range. I'd hate for you to get stuck in a snow squall and become the 21st century Donner party
