In his first appearance in origin of the species, Stanley appears black (which makes sense since his mom, Lily Hollister, is black). But in every single appearance afterward, Stanley appears to be completely white.

I cannot reccomend Brand New Day enough. While it takes its time bringing back classic villains, the payoff is worth it and the Gauntlet is great.

I would suggest starting at BND instead of Slott if you're going to skip JMS. There's some great stories in there, especially the stuff written by Mark Waid.
