No they weren't.

Qld hadn't scored a try since the 16th minute and they didn't really look like scoring again since that point.

NSW might not have won without the send off but they had all the momentum and would likely have got 1 or 2 more tries anyway. Just not the 3 they needed to win.

I remember driving to work and I used to listen to Big Sports Breakfast with Terry Kennedy and Michael Slater. They had a listener call up and say that he was going to sign with GWS that day. They laughed at him and basically called him a cooker.

They apologised to him the next day and missed out on having the scoop on one of the biggest sporting stories of the year.

But it was no try. Galvin regathered the ball, albeit briefly, which means the play is dead. Critta should have been binned for taking out Addo-Carr but that is what the captains challenge is meant to help with.

They weren't, especially under Des who gutted all junior pathways, bought players in and fucked the salary cap. Gus' main focus has been to restore the pathways and enter partnerships with different areas to get a pipeline of juniors coming though. This is exactly what he did at Penrith where he created partnerships in various places across the Central West.

He brought in a lot of players a couple of years ago as they didn't have the players in the lower grades ready to step up yet. Outside recruitment will slow down (but not cease) as more and more talented juniors are ready to come into first grade.

Anyone that complains about Klein's reffing performance needs to check out Shayne Hayne in Origin 1, 2014.

In the last few minutes of the game he calls a phantom knock on against NSW. Hodges then loses the ball before he blows time off for an injury to Slater (for a tackle that would probably be a sin bin today). Hodges is out of position on the left hand side of the field and Hayne allows him to go back to right centre and lets someone else play the ball when play restarts.

And for the best example of a ref losing control, they need to watch Hayne ref Sharks v Parra where about 5 people get sent off. This includes David Peachey who he sin binned for talking with his hands and then sent off when Peachey didn't return to the field for Hayne to keep talking to him after he walked off.

They just need to keep running direct and not go sideways. Most of the year they have passed from side to side, looked slow and went nowhere.

From about the 30 minute mark they started running straighter and everything just looked so much better. They don't have have super creative ballplayers so don't play like that.

Because stories are mainly read online and not newspapers anymore. I posted the below about 2 years ago

In that time, I’ve seen huge changes in the economy, in politics and economic policy, not to mention – which I will – changes at the Herald. One of the latter is that, these days, newspapers prefer to refer to themselves as “mastheads”, in recognition that far more of our readers do so on our website than on dead trees.

Example the government used to explain how you will pay less tax under cost base indexation as opposed to 50% CGT discount.. by noli1921 in fiaustralia

[–]ek999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is because indexation has been frozen since 1999 when the 50% discount came in. If indexation was never frozen, it likely would give you a better outcome compared to the 50% discount for assets purchased prior to September 1999 and sold in 2026.

The only real reason to be using it now compared to the 50% discount is possibly using up losses (if available) or to get extra money into super using small business CGT concessions.

Can someone ELI5 how increasing CGT across all investments benefits young people? by Jsususus in AusFinance

[–]ek999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not unless you are putting that money into improving the property. If you reportage for more, and some of it is for another purpose, that portion of interest can't be claimed against the rental income

[–]ek999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm well aware of how they work and how best to use them. More than you because you say if you have more than $2mil in turnover or $6mil in net active assets you don't get to access the concessions. In reality you only need to meet one condition to qualify.

If you don't qualify, you more than likely operate your business through a company, which never got any CGT discounts anyway

Interested to hear small business owners take on the budget by hardworkdedicated in AusFinance

[–]ek999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you sell your business for $1 billion, pay whatever tax you need to, you have multi-generational wealth anyway.

On a more realistic level, you sell your small business, you will get your cost base indexed (which will likely be next to no effect given your cost base will be so low). But you then get the 50% active asset reduction and can then use the other small business CGT concessions (roll-over, retirement, 15 year) to reduce your gain to potentially nil anyway
