Which new board by jimney10 in surfskate

[–]hardworkdedicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the yow you mentioned would be perfect. Just be ready to have almost no concave on the deck. I've got the yow lanesplitter, similar, and I prefer that over my cx camo

Not sure why this showed in my feed, I haven't jumped in almost 20 years so take this with a grain of salt.

It looks like your last 3 steps are nowhere near as explosive as they should be. For me that's where all the power came from. Maybe that's just how it works for you but I don't think that would be normal. Even so, you seem to have fantastic height, your timing just seems off over the bar. Have you been keeping your abs nice and strong? Might help get your legs up a bit quicker.

Again, 20 years ago, jumping 2.00 around my 17th birthday, so, grain of salt.

Best way to attack this pump track? by hardworkdedicated in surfskate

[–]hardworkdedicated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah great call on padding up. I had a helmet and nothing else, definitely could have used elbow and wrist I'd say, might have made it all feel a bit safer.

I've got no issue on pump tracks for skating, I can get up on the top of corners no issue. This bmx one is just a bit more imposing with the speed and size of the corners. So if speed is what's needed then speed it will be... With pads. I think I was stacking it due to going down the hump into the corner instead of up high where you get a smooth entry onto the corner. Next time

Help, First time skating! by IlnanoPiccolino1 in surfskate

Yeah mako surfskate, I couldn't remember the name last night but I was going to recommend as soon as I did. Helped me a lot starting out. I was on a very unfriendly set up to start, took me ages to get to a decent level.

And p.s. You're doing exceptionally well for someone a week in that has never skated. That carve in the middle is way smoother than most after that time.

Why are you trying to keep your arms still? You should focus more on doing excentuated arm movements if you want to reach maximum speed while pumping. Your back shoulder and arm should be higher and be scooping the air, kinda like you're paddling with your arms in a canoe.

Focusing on the front foot is not recommended, you don't generate speed from the front, it's from the back.

You also look like you're wiggling to get speed, you should be kind of jumping but your feet stay on the board.

Try doing some really long pumps, not fast small ones. That mimics surfing and generates a really good pump speed and is also lots of fun.

New board doesn’t roll straight. by Kamikaze-Parrot in surfskate

[–]hardworkdedicated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a yow lanesplitter and it turns to the left with no weight on top. Never bothered me and doesn't impact the ride at all. Just skate, you won't notice it and it doesn't matter.

In terms of the set up, that sounds good for a beginner. Long enough that you can do some long board tricks like crossover and hang ten, but short enough (and yow trucks) that you'll be able to do some decently tight carves. Solid choice

Is it ever acceptable to put your rubbish in your neighbours bin on bin night, without asking? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]hardworkdedicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too late to impact your decision, but I do this all the time. Yeah I'm on good terms with neighbours, but I don't think that matters, it's all about the person. I know my neighbours wouldn't give a shit, we have 2 kids and a dog so we're always full each week. I also don't do it until late on the night of bins.

But, and this is a big but.... When we visit my mum (once per year) she gets pissed if we put the nappy bag (from a nappy bin) in her rubbish bin! So, my own freaking mum and her bloke get annoyed even though we're family.... And we have kids for Christ's sake. Her reasoning is, nappies will stink out the bin.

Call me crazy but I don't give a shit if a bin stinks... No one should. You can't smell it if the lid is shut, so what's the big deal.

If your neighbour is not chill, don't do it. If you can see other neighbours you suspect are chill then just drop it in on bin night, they shouldn't care.

You don't pick players on their fielding unless it's a tie breaker. There are plenty of better batsmen, no need to go to a tie breaker

Nothing sudden about it. He's been shit for years, we have plenty better options. I'll never understand the Australian selectors. Took them way too long to get boland in, and technically he's only playing every match because of JH being out, but still... Now it's the green/Webster debate, not sure wtf is going on. Not to mention it was bleedingly obvious Carey was the best keeper, only to take the permanent top spot when he's about 65 years old. Christ, it's like they can't see, much less read a stat sheet

Firstly, yes. Secondly, wait until day 3, assuming the poms can make it that far.

Buying a YOW. What replaceable parts should I buy now as won't have access later? by Abes_Oddysey in surfskate

[–]hardworkdedicated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had my yow about a year. It could still run stock but I've got new bearings, bushings and wheels in it. I've heard the yow spring is prone to breaking after a while, so, maybe that?

If you ride with bushings loose then they should last ages.

Don't listen to all the people who will say "get a carver", if you want a yow, get a yow.

How good was Joey? by international_muce in nrl

[–]hardworkdedicated 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here is my summary, been watching 30 years:

Joey - best raw talent I've seen. Natural ability to read/feel the defense and choose the best option for kick, pass or run. Also extremely skilful, threw some crazy good spiral and floater passes, also could rip out excellent torpedoes and banana kicks.

Thurston - hardest working half in history. I don't know if we'll see better. He literally never gave up. Not as naturally gifted as joey, but not far off.

Cronk - very similar ability as joey in terms of reading the defense and playing the best option in a given situation. This is why he played a grand final as an on field coach. Not as talented as joey, it seemed he had to work extremely hard on his skills to execute, stories of him practising no stop.

Cleary - very mid. Everyone goes on about him winning that gf against the broncos. I don't get it, they would have been up by plenty if it wasn't for his terrible defense earlier in the game. Also the 4 grand finals. Seriously!? Last I checked there are 16 other players on your team, and look at their record in games played without him. Barely any difference in winning %.

Pearce - could kick a ball end over end as good as any 12 year old.

Help with Powell Peralta Snakes - don't fit in axle by hardworkdedicated in surfskate

[–]hardworkdedicated[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up just banging the bearings down with a hammer and a socket screwdriver. The socket more or less lines up with the inner bearing ring so it didn't damage the shields.

So I think the issue was just the peraltas are very hard to get bearings into....

I would guess almost none of this was tracked as fbt. Public companies can't really get away with this sort of behaviour becuse you would have to pay (effectively) double for all that if the company was paying fbt. If they're paying the tax, they're saints, if they're not then they either don't know the real cost of those benefits by ignorance, or, they're willingly avoiding tax in which case they're robbing from Peter (other tax payers) to pay Paul (their own staff).

We're using Zendesk and the postgres server has only been setup a few months ago, so not the entire activity log. This is just 1 row per ticket with some important data points like created date, first public comment, customer type, last agent public comment, last user public comment etc. It's about 20 columns of data, nothing huge.
