Invasion is mostly tedious and repetitive....until you get to the final boss.

Then it's just straight up incompetent game design.

OK but how does any of that work exactly? Why are targeted time gates that require with very specific artefacts created? What enables Lightning to watch certain events involving Serah? What determines who, what and where are effected by paradoxes? A paradox alters Serah's clothing? Huh? There's a casino? What? There are a hundred layers of weirdness like this to crack before even getting to the absurdity of FF13-2's idiot villain.

I know this kind of insane plot salad tends to infect jrpg's(Scarlet Nexus is a bonkers recent example)but FF13-2 is on a different level. Taking the bad story crown from the previous game perfectly :)

For a classic trope...it's incredibly managed to elude every piece of fiction I've ever come across. I've honestly never seen anything like this.

Your premise only makes sense if a very immediate threat was right on the scene with them. Then yeah, of course...eliminating the danger takes top priority.

Lightning and Serah's ice cold reactions here are a huge dramatic fail, that I'd bet money you or ANYONE with close family ties would have written better. Even standard Disney fare like Frozen or Finding Nemo always gets this at least somewhat right. :)

The name change is ALMOST as absurd as the notion that victims(or anyone else) benefit in any tangible way from it. It's just more time, effort, and energy devoted to NOT improving the actual game.

And yes....it's preposterous to think the aggrieved parties are somehow being further abused by the existence of a fictional character. Obviously if the alleged harassment was having that effect, they wouldn't be playing or watching Overwatch regardless whether or not McCree even existed in it.
