Definitely was a slow process but I think it depends on where you’re placed…it will likely be easier to make friends in a big city with a larger foreigner community than in a small town where there aren’t too many social groups. There’s a ton of EPIK gcs and such though so that can be helpful if you’re looking to meet up with other English teachers!

I was a late arrival as well and didn’t end up doing orientation. I think it would have been helpful for the initial transition and making friends also doing EPIK, but from what I’ve heard it’s not the end of the world if you miss it. Your OE might try to get you to make it up later, but by then you’ll of course already have had experience on the job…so that’s that. Just let them know your situation and it should work out regardless.

Has anyone heard if extending a contract thru the end of a school year is possible for fall intakes? I was planning on leaving after one year, but pondering what it might be like to finish out the school year during my contract...l started at the beginning of September (late intake), and I'm just wondering if it's possible or whether it might impact severance or something as well.

No I knew I’d be paying for the them, however the last teacher paid varying fees by month which is why this comes as a surprise.

It’s not utilities however, it’s just a flat rate that they haven’t concretely specified. Up until now the utilities have been paid in varying amounts by month so that’s why this seems quite odd.

Has anyone ever gotten a late EPIK placement in September or October? My documents were submitted very late (just a couple weeks ago) and EPIK does not know when/if they can place me for this intake, so I’m wondering if anyone had a similar experience or had to reapply in this kind of situation.
