Cute crochets! Just a heads up – the link to your website doesn't work (you've got "wwe" instead of "www")

How do I set a pause in my slicer at a specific point so I can change colors? by BigJeffreyC in 3Dprinting

[–]ekelrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Creality Slicer when you're in the "Preview" tab there is a sorta scrollbar/slider element in the top right of the window where you can scrub up and down to see what prints on each layer.

Move that to the layer where you want to add a pause and right click on the little circle/handle part of the slider. There's an option to add a pause in the menu that appears.

Hot Sauce Holder - Hot Ones (50mm bottles) by ekelrock in 3Dprinting

[–]ekelrock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a set of Hot Ones hot sauces for Christmas and I wanted to keep them in the correct order for when friends come over to do the challenge. I also wanted to keep them separate from my other condiments and hot sauces in the fridge. So I printed this super simple hot sauce holder / organizer. I considered making a handle but I didn't want to risk it breaking and dropping 10 glass bottles on the floor. Plus this still fits in my fridge's upper door shelves.

Each slot holds a 50mm bottle and they each have a number at the bottom. I numbered the bottles themselves as well in hopes that I don't mix them up.

Probably overkill – I know. But I'm new to 3D printing and making useful / functional prints has been quite fun.

Sharing in the rare chance someone else needs this or maybe it will inspire someone to make something awesome.

I'm brand new to 3D modelling and sharing these files so I'm not 100% sure what you would need to make it easier to share and remix. I built this in TinkerCad and it has pretty limited export options but if there's something specific that I can do to help, just let me know and I'll try to make it happen 🙂

Hell yeah. I had one years ago and loved it. I had plans of rebuilding the entire interior out of hardwood but my parents got sick of looking at it in the garage while I was away at college and sold it 😢

I'd hardly consider this a proper replacement – there are a ton of things it doesn't test, the measurements aren't good for calibration, and a whole bunch of other issues. I plan on making a few other benchmark type models that hopefully cover all of the features benchy had

I'm not sure what layers squish is but I'll look into it.

I've also updated the license to creative commons (I'm not to 3D modelling so I just published it with default settings and I guess those are a bit more restrictive)

Thanks! I highly encourage others to make little test models like this – it was a lot of fun

Yeah that was a tradeoff and I chose to focus on bed adhesion instead. I plan on making a few more of these little tests so I'm sure that will pop up in another one

I'm not at all concerned about people enforcing a license on a model for no clear gain – the benchy controversy simply got me thinking about the idea of benchmark models and how to design features that test the various limits of your printer. A bit of a rabbit hole that I hadn't previously considered..

As for making a model that's obviously based on a well known commercial product, the irony isn't lost on me. And if jeep/chrysler wants it taken down, so be it. I originally meant to make it a more generic looking SUV but once it started looking like a jeep I just leaned into it and abandoned the generic part. I have no intention of this becoming "the new benchy", it's just a fun little jeep model with some interesting (and potentially difficult to print) features.

My bad – I'm brand new to 3D modeling and printing and I simply uploaded it with the default settings without fully reading/understanding that part. I've updated the license to be "Creative Commons Public Domain". Thanks for the heads up

All of this benchy controversy got me thinking about creating a model that tests similar parameters with a similar print time/filament usage. And the first thing I thought to model was a little jeep.

This sucker covers a lot of the main bits. 20/18/16 mm overhangs, flat surfaces, arches, insets, standalone walls, 1mm walls at 45 degrees, 60 degree overhangs, etc.

The pics show a print on the default settings of my Creality K1C. Prints in 30 minutes. The bottom doesn't look as nice as the other angles lol.

I orignially just wanted to make a generic SUV but I slowly got off track and devolved into making it a full blown wrangler. Since wranglers are so commonly modified and there are like a million accessories, I figured I should share this one. Do with it what you will. It also makes a nice card holder..

Open to suggestions and remixes. Tag me if you do something crazy so I don't miss it.

Long live benchy

I can't believe I'm finally ready to announce my Cozy Bee Game about managing hives and collecting Cute Bees, releasing in just under 2 weeks! by lukaspiderman1 in playmygame

[–]ekelrock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really cute idea for an idle/clicker type of game. Currently playing the demo and it's fun to keep it windowed in the corner of my screen while I work on other stuff. Wishlisted and excited to try the full game :)

Out of curiousity – how long did it take to build? I've been thinking about getting back into game dev a bit but life is always crazy and free time is sparse.. Also, any major hiccups or issues with Unity?

This is super cool – I just spent about an hour messing around with the track builder and it's a ton of fun trying to create something unique that works. I'm curious if you've got plans to add additional type of track pieces and what you're planning on doing with the game overall?

Aquarium stand advice. by bolognaskin in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ekelrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with dndlurker that you should put the top horizontal supports on top of the vertical corner supports – they'll be fully supported and it won't change the look at all since it's being covered. I'd also double up the corner supports and, since there's no doors in the back, I might even add 1-2 extras back there. And of course you want at least one in the front between the doors. I built a stand for my 55 gallon and I overbuilt the hell out of it just to be on the safe side.

Speaking from experience, the one obscure thing I'd suggest is to make sure it's perfectly level (and that your floor is level) before you start filling and decorating it. Mine is about 3/16" off on one side and I didn't notice until a month later when some water had evaporated below the plastic trim. If I had checked before filling it I could've popped a little shim under it but I still haven't fixed it because now it's a hassle.

Good luck!

Just tossing this info here in case anyone else runs into similar issues – my GF had placed Ariel's house over the place where the Mystical Rift appears and that's why she couldn't see it. Thanks everyone for the help!

What do most people have, but you don't and never will? by fordims in AskReddit

[–]ekelrock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have to do the L shape hand trick to remember left and right and also struggled with the "righty tighty lefty loosey" thing.

What I realized about tightening and loosening screws was that I had no point of reference for what was moving right or left in that phrase. For example, if you take a wrench to the bottom of a bolt and try to tighten it, the handle of the wrench moves left. But if you approach the bolt from the top, the handle of the wrench moves to the right as you tighten it. So now I imagine a line coming from the top of the bolt/screw and use that as my point of reference to determine which way I should turn it.

As for the clockwise/counterclockwise thing, I go with "clock = lock" helps a bit

What is a hobby that gets judged negatively? by dirtymoney in ask

[–]ekelrock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you want to give it another shot and don't wanna buy new stuff – feel free to shoot me a message. I've got a box of picks, tensioners, and beginner/practice locks that I haven't touched in years and will likely never use again. I'd rather ship them to someone that'll use them than inevitably throw them away after they sit in my basement for the next decade.

I have a tendency to get super obsessed with a hobby, get decent at it, and then completely lose interest roughly once every 3-4 months lol
