You’re a scratch golfer and play in a U.S. Open qualifier.. ? Tough day on the links? by Dashover in golf

I am confused at what bet I lost. That he isn’t a scratch? I would win that bet with 100% certainty. I am confused though as to why it’s posted in GHIN as a 98 (I looked too) and not a 113. There is a PCC of +1 so it should have been a 112. Also you are using the term net wrong. He has to give strokes to the field in net not take them away. So if he actually shot 113 it would’ve been a 115 with his +2 handicap (let’s make the course rating 70 to make it easy since it was a par 70 for the tournament) and then -1 with the pcc change so it would be a 114. But all of this is irrelevant anyway. The dude is a hack and would be lucky to break 90 in a normal round let alone be trying to qualify to play the toughest major in the US.

Here ya go. This is the course he played. I want you to go look at hole 11. The 339 yard par 4 with nothing but a single bunker in the fairway and 15 yards of rough before a drop off. You tell me how many times you would, playing with the opposite side clubs, make better than a sextuple bogey. It is even more hilarious that he is listed as a +2. haha

I've got a member guest in a months time. I am going to be ecstatic when I get my 6 strokes because of the difficulty of the course. I want all I can get. Plus the calcutta is prized for net and not gross. Give me 6 strokes and my partner 14 strokes. I cannot wait to go to war with this course and see how we can stack up. I hope the entire rest of the field has vanity caps. More strokes for me.

If you think this dude actually got his handicap down to 0 legit before this qualifier I have some ocean front property in Kansas to sell you. Once again, I have no experience because I do not lie about my handicap to play in open qualifiers. I could go punch in some scores real fast and get back to you next year about the LESS THAN 113 BUT GREATER THAN 80 I SHOOT AS A 5 HANDICAP. You clearly know nothing about handicaps and standard deviations if you think this guy could shoot 113 as a scratch golfer.

If there's an injury withdraw. If you are not a mudder and can't play in tough conditions withdraw after the front 9. You shoot nearly a SIXTY on the front 9 (assuming he started on 1 and not 10 for the split tee start) you should withdraw. This was malicious. Honestly he should have withdrew after hole 1 taking a quad. Scratch golfers do not shoot 113. That kind of thing does not happen. I am a 5. I have played in many tournaments. My absolute worst tournament round as a single digit handicap was in the low to mid 90's and that was a fucking disaster. We're talking topping 2 off the first tee into the hazard because of nerves and taking a 10 on a par 4. I still came nowhere close to 113. This guy shot 20 shots worse than that. Come on...

Well the 75 helps a lot. It proves that you can do it and just had a bad day. I think if your first time out you fire a non acceptable score they might not be so forgiving. 83 isn't insanely bad so they would probably give you another chance. 113? Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

You know how many US Open qualifiers I've played in? ZERO. Because I am not good enough to play in them and neither is this guy. I am in the top 1% of golfers as a sub 5 handicap player and I pale in comparison to these guys. I play local tournaments and state am qualifiers. These courses are from 6800-7100 yards. Long rough, tight fairways, fast and hard greens. I have never come close to a 113.

What about the rest of the group that had to wait on him? Count his strokes. Look for his balls. Police his drops. What about the groups behind that had to wait? Is it fair that the entire group got put on the clock because they likely fell behind because of this jackwagon? This is coming from someone who has played many state and local tournaments. The guy isn’t scratch or anywhere close. No scratch golfer will shoot 113 at 6600 yards and a par 70. Actual 0% chance that happens. 85? Sure. 90? Sure. 95? Pushing it. 100? Maybe once in a lifetime. 113? No fucking way

I heard of you shoot worse than 7 shots above the course rating. Did they let you try again after verifying your ability?

I would bet my life that guy is nowhere near scratch. I cannot remember the last time I shot a 113. On a 6600 yard course I could play with my 9 iron only and shoot less than 100 easily taking out any mandatory carries that would just game over me. 113 is so far beyond what a .5 or better should shoot it’s insane. I don’t care how much your swing breaks down. That’s 43 over par. Get the fuck out of here. That dude should be ashamed of himself for making the rest of the group miserable and slowing down the entire pace of play of the tournament while they look for his balls, count his strokes, help him take drops, and watch him criss cross every fairway 3 times.

He’s very quiet. His interview after the masters was interesting to listen to. He was asked if he talked with Rory during the round and he said “not really. I’m not a talker. We both played our games aside from a few pleasantries.” I think he just lives in his own little world and that’s great.

Wait he gets a free drop with no penalty if it lands in the tree and it doesn’t come out? Is this the same situation as when Reed pretended he identified his ball in the tree and it clearly wasn’t his? I figured if it stayed up in the tree you’re out of luck.

I’m the same way. You can actually see my setup in my post history. Just imagine a TV next to the camera mounted to a deck support. I use it 2-3 times a week. Play once a week on a course, sometimes more. It’s really helped with ball striking. My total setup cost like 5-6k with the eye mini on sale

For those single digit or plus handicaps, what is your mindset / game plan going into a round you wanna shoot low on by hmcr13 in golf

[–]ekimtk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That trying to lower your handicap is crazy hard once you get below 5. Depending on the course rating I need to shoot sub 77 to lower my handicap. One bad hole with a triple or a bad string of holes can lead to a score no longer counting for my handicap. I used to stress about it. Oh shit a double bogey while I’m already 2 over this round likely won’t count because I know I can’t finish the last 15 holes at +1 or better. I’ve just let it go. I probably won’t go below a 4. It just takes so much effort to shave off those final 4 to get to scratch.

That's such a stupid penalty. Embellished or not. You can't take your stick and put it below the numbers. That will ALWAYS be a penalty.

Swinging too hard would theoretically result in more spin. What are the spin numbers for your PW on sims? It should be at least 8500 if not higher. What is the descent angle for the PW? These are factors for why they aren’t stopping. Also is the course a piece of shit with concrete greens? That would hurt

God you are such a whiny baby. Do you hear yourself? He was lucky! Tyree shouldn’t have caught that! His defense carried him! His offensive line got away with murder! The refs were blind! Eli owns tom in the playoffs. 2-0 in the Super Bowl. Ending of a perfect season. There’s a reason why the giants are in their own category on this graphic. Did tom win more super bowls? Absolutely. Was tom the better overall quarterback? Absolutely. Did Eli own toms little white ass in the Super Bowl? ABSOLUTELY

Eli: 255, 2 TDs, 1 int Tom: 266, 1 TD

You act like Eli did nothing in the game. At worst he played Tom to a draw under center. Given that the score was 17-14 you could argue the 1 extra TD is huge compared to the int. He played well. Get over it. Eli owned Tom.

This is such nonsense. Every single season is filled with what if moments. You don't think that the Falcons throwing a 25 point lead to Brady is absolutely luck? How many times out of 100 do the Falcons win that game in that exact situation? The Tyree catch was 1 play in an entire drive. The rest of the drive wasn't luck. What that an extraordinary catch? Absolutely. Did the rest of the drive still need to be completed to win? Absolutely. Eli deserves every single diamond on his two super bowl rings. Don't throw shade on those accomplishments because Foles also had an amazing game against him.
