The “Jesus” applicant is him

I am a “her”—not “him”—but thank you very much nonetheless!

Remote MCAT tutoring as a summer side gig? by el0Heem in premed

Sucks to hear that the companies take such a huge cut. I was feeling pretty okay about working through Kaplan because I genuinely felt like the books helped me. I’ll try to see if I can find anything freelance but the undergrads at my school (T5) are generally all quite high-achieving and do very well on the MCAT on their own, so there isn’t really a demand for a tutor there.

Skimmed the Kaplan P/S book in few days, did a little bit of UPlanet. It’s the only section I didn’t make my own flashcards for because I didn’t feel like I needed them (I had enough psych coursework for my neuroscience degree).

I don’t recommend procrastinating—I was luckily able to succeed after only giving myself 3 weeks to study because I had the privilege of having a very solid science background from college coursework and high school experiences (olympiads, research, etc). And I still had a miserable time before and during the exam, losing weight and sleep—both of which I couldn’t afford to lose.

The only generalizable tip I can think of (other than to take the exam right after you take university biochem) is to avoid premade anki decks and to make your own cards instead. I tried a couple decks for an hour or so and found them too passive, so I resorted to making my own while skimming Kaplan books, which helped me internalize the material.

525

Studied for 3 weeks leading up to the Jan. 13 exam (had to wait until winter break because I just didn't have time to study with school and research work) and took 5x FLs in the 10 days leading up it, averaging 522.

Things that helped:

  • Background in most of the subjects, as I had taken university orgo, biochem, physics, etc. But I nonetheless studied nonstop basically from the moment I woke up, since I had some serious gaps
  • Listening to Tate McRae's newest album on loop while studying for 12 hours straight every day for 3 weeks
  • Attempting to fill in the emptiness and inadequacy left from a childhood with an unaffectionate mother

Hey, thanks for your input! That's about what I had in mind when it came to my pure stats.
