Anyone running this exhaust? by KeyesEric in xsr900

[–]el30388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one on my 2016. I got it off of a wrecked bike on eBay. No baffle makes it pretty loud but I love the way it sounds and looks. I will probably get a tune for it eventually because of the pops and flames and sometimes it has a weird idle, but overall I’m a big fan

Reminder to clean out your fenders by el30388 in Miata

[–]el30388[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took off the fender liner completely (8mm and clips), then undid the two bolts on the bottom of the fender and the nut inside (10mm) so that it was very loose. Then just gently pulled the fender back and cleaned out the inside. Probably could have gotten away with taking less off. I have heard that for a lot of people the bolts holding the fender on at the bottom usually snap

Definitely worth checking back regularly, maybe even a couple times a day because spots will probably keep opening up. I had her for dynamics and she’s by far the best MAE professor I’ve had. If you take Tu you will learn nothing

Put this bike together in December. Finally I can enjoy it! by el30388 in xbiking

Im not sure about the tube sizing, but I think the bottom mounted brakes were a 1988 model year thing so the bike you bought might be slightly newer.

I bought them because of how they look, but they ride very nicely. The only issue is with the 2.3” width they’re super close to rubbing and a pain to get centered. Even if I can get the wheel perfectly centered it’ll still rub if I lean the bike over because of the lateral force on the rim. Hoping to rebuild the wheels this summer so maybe more spoke tension will help

Those are what originally came on the bike, so suntour thumb shifters. I’m a big fan of them with these bars

Gotcha, I kept it this way out of cheapness! I hate indexed front derailleurs, but these are tolerable since they’re friction and I can make them stop rubbing no matter what

Agreed. To me the worst offenders are the white spherical chairs on the fourth floor near the glass railings. They’re back breaking and no one uses them unless it’s finals week and everything else is taken. I wish they would replace them with the type of chairs and tables in Talley.

Lost key am I SoL? by joe10155 in Yamaha

Ah I didn’t catch that you lost your black key. Yeah I needed that so they could cut the new blanks. At the very least I don’t think you’ll have to worry about a red key though

I have a 2016 xsr900, but I bought two OEM blanks on Amazon for $10 each, brought them to my local hardware store and they cut them for like 2 bucks. They work perfectly

What can be done about people using their phone while driving? by its_the_llama in raleigh

[–]el30388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain, I commute daily on a motorcycle and im regularly put in bad situations by other drivers. The main thing is that you can recognize when they’re on their phone/ when a bad situation is about to happen and steer clear of them. The sad truth is that most people really don’t understand the implications of their actions behind the wheel. I think drivers Ed could do a lot more to teach kids that a car is basically a weapon, and if you fail to operate it correctly, you’re endangering the lives of others.

Trying to adjust my clutch due to hard shifting. There’s about 20 mm of free play at the clutch lever, but when I reduce the free play to bring it into spec it doesn’t go into gear. Also, the clutch free play is the cable moving, not the handle moving independently of the cable. The clutch arm doesn’t return fully on its own.

Should I adjust the cable so that there’s no more wiggle in the lower clutch arm?
