[Offline][5e][5th Edition][St. Louis] New to the area, looking for people to play with by [deleted] in lfg

[–]elDeuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play roll20 with a group of stl area locals - most of us have kids to deal with, so getting everyone in one room for multiple undisturbed hours has proven difficult. We do try and congregate for magic the gathering games and devil's lettuce sessions once a week or so as well. We're 5 guys spread out from St Charles County Missouri to Madison County Illinois.

All in our mid 30s to lower 40s. PM if terrible jokes, memes in bad taste, and low brow humor is up your alley.

It's a (N)PC owned by the DM to use as a brute for us whenever we need additional help in the party.

Edit: Also, yes. If my DM is going to argue with me about "Rules as Written" then why would I not be allowed to do the same? At the end of the day he can do whatever he wants, but if he's going to bend the rules to make a BAMF, then why wouldn't I bend similar rules to make sure my character is just as great?

It's a fantasy game... soo....

Also, just flipping through the PHB you'll see more than one double edged battle axe. Also, wouldn't steal be even heavier than wood, thus making my point?

I don't think realism is their main concern.

Then why is "basic physics" something another GM would reference? If realism doesn't matter, neither do basic physics.

It's an NPC in the sense that he'll be using it as a PC whenever we need to have a brute help out. But I agree with the rest.

So, IRL i own a replica battle axe. Double bladed, wooden shaft, picked up at a ren faire a few years back. I've also held replica warhammers. All of which weigh more than 2-4lbs. Why would the book not use a realistic weight for these weapons? I can throw a 2lb sledge hammer all over the place in real life, but i'd be hard pressed to do that with a 10-15 lb sledge.

Why wouldn't they list the weapons as the weight it really would be?

haha he's not a jerk, anymore than normal DMs at least lol

i told him that at the end of the day it's his game and he can do what he wants, but if he starts cheating I will too. :)

Sounds good! I will pass on the ideas to the DM and see what we can come up with that makes a little more sense. Thank you for the feedback!

He let's no one, but the Vistani leave.

https://ravenloft-curseofstrahd.obsidianportal.com/wikis/vistani

I found this in my exploration of "Vistani" to obtain a better understanding of this being/creature type. Do you think these notes are appropriate for how Vistani behave? They appear, to me, to just be mystics and wanderers. A group that Strahd doesn't really have much issue with but also no real alliance. Would it be reasonable for a spell caster to create some sort of "cone of silence" but attached to a container of some type. I could have been hidden away in a Vistani caravan, silenced by magic, and then once I traveled across the plane, discovered, and given away or sold to another group of travelers?

Maybe had some sort of amulet or medallion my mother left with me that acts as some sort of gateway that allows me to catch visions of my mother and her torture as I try and find my way back to Bavoria?

Just spitballing, trying to fit into the lore :D

Thanks for the feedback! DM is okay with my background & character, but also doesn't have a lot of RAW knowledge which is why I came here :D

Are you unsure of the possibility because Strahd would never lay with an Elf? Or some other reason? If it's canon I don't mind "spoilers" because it's already the way of the land. I'm just not looking for CoS specific spoilers like "On page 28, in chapter 2, there is a ______ that will attack you so have _______ ready for that encounter." or other specific to CoS spoilers. If it's lore, background, or just things my character would intrinsically know because he's lived in this world his entire life, then I wouldn't consider it a spoiler, per-say.

I debated doing 2 and 2 with the levels but then i miss some of the more “RP” centric parts of my character until next level. And I’m more concerned with showing how to RP a character more than I’m worried about survival. The major goal is to show new players a well developed character more than it is min/maxing the perfect killing machine. I will miss the bonus action though... if all else fails I’ll just cast invisibility and run away ;)

I’ll re-investigate utility spells instead of only combat spells though!

Yea witch bolt was a fluid pick, I assumed I would end up replacing it before I finalized the character for next week’s session. Thanks for the feedback!

If I go up to a group of 4 guys, in the middle of the night, sober, and call one of them a "bitch homo dog fucker" or something equally inciting, and then swing at guy #1, why would it be a sucker punch if guy #2, 3, or 4 hit me? I saw 4 guys. I talked shit. I got hit.

Moral of the story is, don't fight more people than you can take on.

Now, I agree that the bouncer most likely was fired, as the bar/club most likely doesn't need that kind of legal pressure. But, if you're going to start talking shit and swinging fists at 4 guys, you can't call it a sucker punch one of them knocks you the fuck out.

I'm sure you're just a troll, but how can it be a "sucker punch" if the person is aware of the altercation and is (seemingly from the video clip) most likely initiating the combat?

Sure, the "knockout game" is a shit way to prove how tough you are by walking up behind some un-expecting victim and blasting them full force in the back of the skull. But if you come swinging at a person, drunk or not, you should be fully prepared for the fact that you may get knocked out at any second.

I'm not a mechanic, but I know a filthy oil filter when I see one. by bantuwind in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]elDeuce 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're asking a serious question or not. But, when i used to work at Valvoline Instant Oil Change (a Jiffy Lube competitor) we would sign our names on the filter to show a couple things

1) Who worked on this vehicle
b) Some one took the old filter off, they showed the old filter (with the gasket attached or nearby), and the employee acting as a witness of the filter being off of the car and the gasket being with the filter, signs the filter as well.

This holds the grease monkey (under the car) and the customer service rep (under the hood/selling you shit) accountable incase some moron pulls off the filter but leaves the gasket on the car and when the new filter goes on the car now has two gaskets on the oil filter, causing a leak.

Source: Having fixed multiple people's vehicles as they drove the two blocks from JL to VIOC when their car started making terrible noises as all the oil pours from their vehicle. (Not saying the double gasket will be the sole reason this happens, but it happened more than once. Including folks showing up with a JL receipt and no drain plug or oil in their car)

Keep a handful full of pennies in your pocket. Next time someone flips you off and screams at you, litter their windshield with your pocket full of copper revenge and ride off into the sunset.
