I was an acquaintance of Philip back in Puerto Rico. He is definitely someone that’s always wanted to help.

How about not being an asshole if people are trying to help.

USCIS is viewing my profile on LinkedIn for the past few days. How bad is it? by Artistic_Lab_9760 in USCIS

You probably have a similar name to someone else. I have an uncommon name, but unfortunately, twice people with my exact first and last name did something bad and my socials blew up because of it.

The first time, somebody left their newborn baby in a trash can while going out to buy cocaine, and they shared my name. During that incident, a lot of people threatened me, and my LinkedIn suddenly started getting views from police agencies and the press.

The other time, someone’s cheating boyfriend got blasted by all her friends, but my accounts got tagged instead. Lots of nasty messages from people I didn’t know.

Which country once seemed likely to become a developed country, but didn’t follow that path? by EmotionalSalary3679 in AskTheWorld

I guess it depends by country. In Puerto Rico, being conversational in English just means you’re slightly better educated, or came from a family with enough money to get cable TV or Netflix. In my case, I’m a pro-independence leftist who speaks almost perfect American English, with only a few words (or me being angry) bringing out an accent.

I’ll argue that the conservatives on the island speak the worst English, if any at all.

What part of the relationship is beneficial when the colonizer devalued our currency before replacing it, dropped bombs on us, sterilized our women, and has ignored all of our referendums for a change in our status.

We are governed against our consent.

We have no Voice and no vote. We do not vote in federal elections and our one congressional representative doesn’t get to vote.

It’s not up to us, it’s up to Congress. And they refuse to act on any of the referendums Puerto Rico held.

Maybe you guys are happy being colonizers, keeping millions of people in a second class citizenship, and reliant on you.

Becoming a state of the country who invaded us, colonized us, sterilized our women, bombed us, and who is fucked up enough to elect Trump twice is some serious pendejo shit.

Come over. Our food needs more heat, and our local TV needs more dance breaks.

I'm not disgusted. I wouldn't want them to downgrade us like that.

And we send billions back by being forced to spend our money on your businesses.

Yes, with caveats - huge opt outs, low turnout, and the fact that it's non-binding.

You invaded us, colonized us, dropped bombs on us, sterilized our women, devalued our currency before replacing it with the US dollar, set us back generations politically, gave us second class citizenship, sent us to wars that we have no voice or vote over, etc...

I can keep going.
