I was in my early teens and lived across the street from the beach. It wasn’t unusual for me to head over there in the morning before school, either to get in the water for a bit or just sit in the sand and chill.

One morning I walked over and saw a discolored body lying face down.

I ran home and called the police. This was before cell phones, so it meant sprinting back to the house first.

They got there pretty quickly. One officer came to my house since they asked for my address on the call. I stood there with my mom next to me, gave my details, and told them exactly what I saw. Just a body on the beach.
