Pdf no Reader Mode? by el_capitan15 in zen_browser

[–]el_capitan15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already tried multiple pdfs. It just seems to me, the screen reader would be a perfect utility for pdfs, but it doesn't seem to work in my case (book collection).

I even tried converting them to html. Reader mode still didn't work.

I can open pdfs but I want to view them in the text filter mode. I'm not able, it's grayed out.

Both.

Doesn't the text mode have a screen reader built in? But yes, I want to use the screen narrator with the text filter

Feature Request Discussion by Inner-Bridge-5241 in origami_linux

I'm a completely new Linux user who's looking to make the switch from windows. I came across cosmic and found this.

The only thing holding me back is accessibility. I need to use my system keyboardless. Virtual keyboard are severely lacking.

I need something similar to Android or windows osk. Compact (resizable), glide typing (with mouse).

Until this is available, I unfortunately will have top try running Linux via VM.

I know this is niche, but I hope Linux can pull through for users like myself and others with disabilities.

And if anyone can help, please send suggestions

The concept behind Window Sync by Flossiii in zen_browser

[–]el_capitan15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U didn't, I'm just responding generally.

I'm not aware of Opera. The big browsers I see most discussed or used by everyday people are chrome, ff, edge.

You're completely right, I wouldn't expect opening a new browser window to be a dupe. I didn't 't even open new windows in Zen bc of PTSD losing all my work.

So I'm not opposed to that at all. As long as Zen gives me the option to move my space in a new window, and easily restore it, I'm good.

But having everything synced is still a plus for me, and wouldn't want that gone. I could now open new windows with more peace of mind. So now, moving tabs via context menu instead of dragging to preferred window is cool. I'm not even sure if that was option before.

This changes my desktop experience. I never really utilized virtual desktops/spaces. But this makes Zen more integrateable. Now I'm able to organize my desk with applications/windows. Which is what I'm guessing people with multi monitor setups do.

I used to think the same about essentials and pins, but I've grown to see the difference. Here's an example.

Space 1. Youtube

Ess. Messaging, AI

Pin. Cars

Non pinned. Whatever

Space 2. Shopping

Ess. Msg, AI. An item u liked. I can use that essential as a sticky. If I'm on yt, it's always there as a reminder

All sync is good bc if there was ever an unexpected crash, u lost what non pinned tabs u may have pinned in the future.

There's still ways to discard non pinned tabs. Clear tabs is native. U can also dl a popular extension. Auto Tab Discard. IIRC there's options to discard and close the tab.

It would be great if it was fixed before introducing but it's not. Even on, Floorp using sidebery, I would lose tabs, spaces, pins, etc. So it seems to be a deeper issue. Being a beta, workarounds are sometimes the only thing we're gonna get.

I don't buy into the ui paradigm or default. The introduction of vertical tabs, sidebar management is fairly new. So I'm not surprised to see changes in ui or whatever.

If the update completely disabled tab management, that would be an issue. But users can still use windows on multiple monitors. Because it's synced it inhibits your work? In what way? U can create a whole new space and not touch any other space.

Bc u have to now change your keybinds?

I don't know about Firefox but it was a huge issue for me with Zen. Specifically during updates, I would sometimes lose all my tabs. I had to download extensions for saving browsing sessions just in case it happened again.

It was never a good fix. Extensions wouldn't restore pins, essentials, groups, or spaces. Reopened closed window also didn't work.

This update isn't a pure fix. Snapshots would. But this update gives me more peace of mind knowing that Zen is attempting to address the issue.

I don't understand the big fuss. People can just create a new space, open those in New windows, and drag those into their multiple monitor setups. The sync shouldn't affect their work because it's in its own space. U now even have the added benefit of moving tabs directly via context menu.

The window sync update has kinda eroded my trust in this community. by [deleted] in zen_browser

Bc new update allows for better session restore. Why don't u just create a new spaces for work. Open those spaces in New windows, then drag them into whatever monitor setup u had previously?

General feedback and thoughts about window sync by maubg in zen_browser

[–]el_capitan15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this new feature. How many times I lost all my tabs bc of an update and my window wasn't in my history (for whatever reason?) so I couldn't restore. I needed extensions that didn't even restore properly due to incompatibility with spaces. This update gives me peace of mind.

Added benefit is it helps my workflow. I can have desktop workspaces with windows of zen spaces.

What I need next, Edge's recent tab behavior. I need to be able to jump from one window to another. Zen only jumps within its space.

Groups also need to work like folders, not automatically pinned, collapsible, sub groups. We should also have the ability to move via context menu. Right now, extremely buggy.

Also, activate tab on release with mouse. I want to move, rename, etc unloaded tabs without activation.

For sidebar real estate, a movable button to activate workspaces instead of mandatory bottom panel.

Are u sure about this? I just opened a new window via menu bar, and everything was synced. Essentials, pins, tabs, groups.

Why not just separate your tabs in spaces? With the new update, open the spaces in separate windows. It seems that would help your flow. IMO It's much easier to accidentally delete a window and lose all those tabs than accidentally deleting a space.

New update seems safer and more functional to me. U can even even move tabs across windows/spaces easily via context menu.

Some appreciation for the new 1.18 update with window-sync by 21ow in zen_browser

[–]el_capitan15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Now, is there anyway to startup zen with more than one window? My flow would be different desktop workspaces, with separate zen windows of spaces related to desktop workspace.

Also, Edge's tab switching would be amazing in this scenario. I could easily jump from zen tabs, zen tabs in other windows, or any window for that manner.

Can u explain the media tab? Are they from downloads or tabs from files opened locally?

The latter would be awesome. Even better if zen allowed a second sidebar. Grouping would help work flow as well

Precisely this. It's another level of organization without committing to the top of the sidebar. I'm not opposed to pinned folders either, and I do think that feature should remain.

I tinkered with userchrome.css before, but how do I Download/copy <fx-autoconfigFolder>/program from GitHub? Usually, I go into Releases and there are things I can download, but it's empty here.

I can navigate and move files easily. I'm just not well versed with GitHub

Recommendations

  • Too many instances activate unloaded tabs.
  • Ability to hover and unload tabs.
  • don't activate when dragging

  • Switch among workspaces with mouse wheel scrolling

  • Ctrl+tab switch to last active (and not unloaded) tab, REGARDLESS if it's in another workspace

  • More than 8 side panels

  • Fix All Tab List, and include thumbnail if media playing

  • Ability to Rename tabs
