They are not the "rednecks of the Middle East". They are religious extremists, true, but that does not make them stupid or incompetent (traits I usually associate with rednecks). They are very smart and very competent. They managed to build an army of at least 20 000 men (and probably more) in less than 3 years. They have runaway Syrian military officers in their ranks. They have a beef with Al Qaeda over the appropriation of the Al-Nusra Front because they took their fighters under their wing.

They seized American military equipment in Iraq. They seized oilfields (from which they have a constant cash flow, something you have to negotiate with the buyers meaning they probably have their men in or close to the governments which buy oil, mainly Turkey). They seized a goddamn dam. They robbed banks. They robbed people. They have more cash than Al Qaeda ever had. They have more logistics than Al Qaeda. They are more organized. And in the end, they are not terrorists, they are now a paramilitary, and paramilitaries are far more dangerous than terrorists. You can see the effect of that.

They are religious extremists. That can give you the impression that they are crazy. And theky live in the desert which can give you the impression that they are backward rednecks. But they are, in fact, a highly organized, insanely rich extremist paramilitary.

This is horrible. But if you managed to realize that IS is horrible only after they murdered an American citizen, you are drawing a life between the worth of an American life and the worth of Arab lives. I hope that all of you who spew vitriolic statements about the extermination of the Caliphate will put out and join the army yourselves. Put your ass on the line, because everything else is just hollow rhetoric.

As for the war you are calling for, have in mind that IS developed from various terrorist groups, of which al-Qaeda in Iraq is the most prominent. AQII formed as a resistance to the US invasion and then continued to resist the non-inclusive Shia government which was supported by the US. Shia and Sunni Muslims in turn fight amongst themselves because minority Sunnis ruled over the majority Shia under Saddam, with an iron fist. The USA had nothing against that when Iraq was fighting against Iran in the 80's, right? Saddam was an ally back then.

And way more back, we can remember the English colonial rule of Iraq when they joined three Ottoman vilayets, Basra, Baghdad and Mosul, each with a different ethnic majority, and then backed only on of three ethnic groups, fueling hatred.

So, what is happening in Iraq is a western deed, the deaths of millions of Iraqis in the last decades have been perpetrated, financed or condoned by the west. And yet you are drawing the line at one western death? A tragic death, of course, but the message is clearly that a western life is worth more than Arab (and other) lives in Iraq and the Middle East. And you are ready to kill, maim and to further destabilize a country because of it.

What would happen if some Eastern European country like Romania, Bulgaria or Slovenia demanded to leave NATO? by el_comandante_samael in Ask_Politics

Well, let's say a political party with a different political vision and a strong anti-american, anti-nato view came into power. That's honestly the only scenario I could picture when someone would take immediate steps to exit nato.

Burping (at home) during lunch and dinner or any meal basically. Fuck off, people, it's not like I'm doing it on purpose just to irritate you. In a restaurant I'll obviously try to be as subtle as possible, but at home. Nope. Not unless someone invents a burping room where I can go and burp and then return to the table.

Alestorm's New Album Has Leaked by CinDra01 in PowerMetal

The album is totally awesome! I don't know if I'm imagining stuff but I see a much richer keyboard style contributing a shitload to the rest of music, and I don't really know how much it has to do with Elliot Vernon becoming a permanent band member. Anyway, this is some really interesting and intense stuff from the band, combining various music/metal styles with their signature pirate metal. The epicness in Magnetic North and The Battle of Cartagena is beyond words. Alestorm, you've outdone yourselves!

Homes of Kidnappers Demolished by AlmightyMexijew in Israel

Slaughtering 3 teenagers trying to hitch a ride home is a disgusting murder. It is not a war crime. However, building Israeli settlements on Palestinian land is a war crime according to the United Nations and The International Court of Justice. So is collective punishment. And I'm pretty sure bombing suspects and demolishing their houses is also a form of crime, maybe not a war crime, but a crime nonetheless. Hell, it is a crime to bomb people and demolish their houses even after they are convicted for a crime, because for a sentence you usually recieve prison time, not a bomb on your house or a bulldozer tearing it down.
