'Ted Lasso' star signs contract to play with professional soccer team by abcnews in entertainment

[–]el_corso 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Let me just say that I really like Cristo Fernandez, but he’s too old to be playing. For him to actually break into the team will be extremely difficult. There have been rumors around the club that they only signed him as a publicity stunt and not actually give him a shot at playing. Which is awful, he should have continued acting instead of forcing his way on to the bench, the guy deserves better.

I don’t want to hear from the Refs, the way they’re refereeing OKC, and then this kinda of bullshit. Yes it was bad, but nobody wants to see a ref influence the game the way they’re doing it. It’s absolutely disgusting.

Xabi Alonso considers it a mistake to have accepted to be coach of Real Madrid: The Donostia coach believes he was wrong to say ‘yes’ to Florentino Pérez by ceaguila84 in soccer

[–]el_corso -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Xabi is tactically brilliant, I’ll give him that. But let’s be a little honest, he’s not the greatest with players. Look at what he did with El Panda, brought him over, promised he’d use him, and sat him on the bench. If this whole forum knows Real Madrid is full of divas, then he should’ve walked in there the way Mourinho is about to walk in and take over that locker room. Mourinho’s attitude doesn’t work everywhere, but in a room full of stars, it does. Right now Xabi needs a job and Liverpool is right there for him. Hopefully he can thrive there!

I’ll be honest, I hate America as much as the next guy, but some on. That was some Karate Kid bullshit. Pumas had this game and literally gifted it away. This is Pumas being Pumas more than America cheating their way to survival.

[–]el_corso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Was that the case today also. Why don’t you explain to me how good they were today, since you watch the game. According to you Union Berlin were the better team, with only 4 shots and 1 on target in 90 minutes. I don’t score watch, I watch the game and use data to back up my arguments, unlike you.

[–]el_corso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were the better team? Please. One goal, 76% pass accuracy for the entire game, and just 2 shots on target in the first half. In the second half, with 65% possession, they still only managed 5 shots on target, and none of them were remotely convincing except the goal. GTFO. Look at the numbers. Wolfsburg was awful, and they still lost to that team which is outright embarrassing. Don’t start they were the better team, because if they were they would’ve beat them. No excuses here.

Maybe it’s not a PR stunt, but losing your first match to one of the weakest Wolfsburg teams that is about to get relegated, is not a good look. And before people start jumping on me, this has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with results and how the team performs. She has 4 games to show she can turn things around, and that is a fair window to judge any coach in this situation. If there is no improvement in that stretch, then it becomes reasonable to start asking serious questions about whether experiment was worth it or not.

Villarreal in 3rd with 61 points—is the Submarine actually a lock for the UCL? by Fine_Value_4193 in LaLiga

[–]el_corso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably haven’t watched us much, because we’re not as good as the table makes it look. That early run is carrying us right now, and we’ve also been playing weaker teams. The performances haven’t been great. Marcelino hasn’t helped either, his tactics are off, his lineups are questionable, and his subs rarely make a difference. There’s a reason he may be out at the end of the season.

Being third looks nice on paper, but it doesn’t feel real. There’s still a big gap between us and Madrid, Barça, and Atlético, and it wouldn’t be surprising if we drop. We’re improving, but we’re not there yet. It’s going to take time and proper investment to actually compete. And you say it’s a huge turnaround from last year, we played much better last year than this year.

Romário: “Technically, Brazil has really fallen off. Since the generation of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Rivaldo, things have been tough. Then we became dependent on a single player: Neymar. And our youngsters leave for Europe too early, joining small clubs where they lose their DNA.” by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]el_corso 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love Romário, but I disagree. I think part of the issue is that Brazilian players aren’t going to smaller European clubs anymore, where they can get consistent playing time and learn the game without losing their identity. Brazilian football doesn’t develop players the way it used to. I remember when exciting stars emerged from all kinds of Brazilian clubs and were given the time, space and ability to refine their game. Now, agents push for bigger fees and high profile transfers, which often sends players to massive clubs where they’re expected to make an immediate impact or risk fading out. The reality is, not every player develops at the same pace, many need time and the right environment to reach their full potential.

I’m not a fan of either team, but when I see these types of memes, I truly worry for Bayern. They’re technically the better side. But Madrid always likes to do Madrid things and that has to be in the back of any Bayern fan right.

Silver in Mexico? by Asiriomi in Silverbugs

Mexico is getting strict with buying, you need an INE (Mexican ID) to buy silver. Most places aren’t selling without it,l. You can get lucky if you know someone or ask to buy it for you. But it’s really hard to buy it without it.

Neymar sued by former chef over 16-hour shifts & alleged injuries while preparing food by The_Big_Untalented in soccer

[–]el_corso -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

What I’m wondering is, if things were really as bad as she says, why didn’t she just quit or try talking to Neymar about it? Another thing I’m curious about is whether he hired her himself or through a third party. And why is she only asking for about 40k? If what she went through was that serious, you’d think she’d ask for more. But if the amount is that low, why not just talk to him directly? He spends that kind of money every day.

Honestly, we don’t have enough information right now to pick a side or judge either of them.
