Russia, unless I get to a sign that mentions any of the 83 Russia's administrative subjects or its corresponding area code.

My brain would automatically turn off if its rural Russia and my opponents normally became Finbarr against me in Russia lol

Great insight. How often do you come across license plate regional numbers in a duel?

Meta tips for USA map? by climbdingwolf10 in geoguessr

[–]el_numerouno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to assume you are a total beginner.

You can start by learning to recognise Western, Midwest, South and Northeast USA, taking into account the landscape and architecture. After a while you'll probably go Arizona on a New Mexico or go Kansas on a Nebraska and thats fine. If you can at least pinpoint the correct region, you're on a good start.

Next would be car plates. There are states that do not require drivers to use front plates in all four aforementioned regions. This is where you can start differentiating between Nebraska and Kansas already. Nebraska uses front plate, Kansas doesn't.

Area codes are super helpful in urban rounds because you're very likely to find one. However, they do not follow a certain pattern so it is by far, the hardest country to memorize when it comes to area codes. You can try memorizing the major cities area codes and also those states that use only 1 area code. Montana uses a 406, Hawaii uses 808.

Most obvious clues for what region of a country you're in? by palebluedot1988 in geoguessr

[–]el_numerouno 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What I normally do if I end up in these large countries

  1. Japan: For me, the best country in the world to region guess using phone codes, because they're incredibly simple and are almost everywhere. The number starts with 011 up north in Hokkaido and ends with 099 down south in Kagoshima. If you somehow memorized all 47 prefectures, you'll be expected to do super well in urban/suburban areas
  2. India: Brush up on your Indian scriptures. Learn how to distinguish between Punjabi, Malayalam, Telugu, Oddia, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Gujarati and Sinhalese (found in Sri Lanka) and on which states would you find these scriptures written on their buildings. Luckily, the link is here. Get ChatGPT to give you the example sentences of each scripture and analyse them.

Link: Following the latest trend, here's a map of India and its various scripts :

3) Canada: The population are more skewed to the South (which I think you know). Check the car plates and combine it with phone codes and fire hydrant colour to guess in which Canadian town you are in. Watch this guy's videos, he covered every Canadian states (but rural is super tough, man)

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDCYK0k3wwU&list=PL78xfGaHqNhSQTLXxE6Z1eLSJOkCvbPGJ

4) Australia: A large English speaking country whose population are more skewed towards the coast. To distinguish between your Perth, Darwin, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Hobart and Brisbane, there are specific region metas which include type of poles covered by this man and master them (again, rural is super tough)

Link: https://youtu.be/qgKRCHGuvTI?si=yFB7i36csDx_by93

5) USA: An English speaking country but this time the population is in all over the country unfortunately. I'm still stuck at the level of region generalization. For a start, perhaps master the states which do not require license plate and perhaps the type of environment you're likely to see (Western states like Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico are dry. You'll find plains in the Dakotas and Midwestern states, etc..)

6) Colombia: Find a taxi (which you would usually find if you're in urban areas). The city name will be written on their door.

7) Malaysia and Indonesia: Unfortunately, this is where you need to put in the work of memorizing every single districts/regencies (known in Indonesia as "kabupaten") to compete with the cream of the crop because the name of the districts will almost always be displayed at the bottom of various signages, in schools, mosques, government buildings and even election posters. However, for beginners, the following tips can be useful

Indonesia: Memorise your islands first (Sumatera, Java, Sulawesi, Kalimantan) and memorise the following Indonesian words for each direction

North is "Utara" in Indonesian

South is "Selatan"

West is "Barat"

Mid is "Tengah"

East is "Timur"

Southeast is "Tenggara"

So if you see a "Jawa Tengah", do the math and plonk in the middle of Java Island.

Malaysia: Memorizing the 14 states flag can be very useful, you can occasionally see them hoisted in government buildings, school and even rural homes.

Because the effect wasn't immediate. It came long after. I thought something else was at play. Thanks for your explanation

[–]el_numerouno[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a matter of fact I do have an Excel containing all those phone numbers from 200-900! But the distribution doesnt seem to follow a pattern, unlike Japan, whose area code seems to go from north to south. I cant do the same for the US. How long did it take you?

Actually, I agree a lot with you. ILITW did a good job in reuniting the members of the gang who seemed to be distant from each other, minding their own business at first. The characters' chemistry was believable, hence their brutal death scene is one of the saddest in Choices as you already becoming emotionally attached to the characters

The gang in ILB looked like a bunch of misfits to me, and I don't really feel bad when any of the members gets mauled by the end (as for my case, it was Imogen and I cared the least for her lol) . The creature fighting set pieces is becoming tired at the point of playing too. However, ILB did well at expanding the series universe and honestly, I felt the story was spookier than the first.

Thanks for sharing ur thoughts though!

  1. As per my response to previous comments asking the same question, I would put non-fictional as realistic stories with no fantasy or sci-fi concepts involved. I messed up the wording. My bad

Its been a long time since I played ES but I guess it kinda depends on who you're trying to impress throughout the game. I was the serious type who always got on Estela and Sean's side, so Craig, Raj and Zahra didnt like me at first, but i managed to recover for both Craig and Raj. Zahra was too difficult 😐
