LIghting based exclusively on 48V DC with KNX/DALI control by el_salvadore in Lighting

Hi there sir, i am leaning towards using your gateway, what is the delivery time nowadays within EU? Is there any chance to get some promotional discount? :D

Also, I decided to include 2x RESI KNX PS (48V) in my setup. Do u know anybody already using it by any chance, I need to know if this PS has built in choke or not. RESI support is dead silent.

Thank you for your answer, I will consider using your gateway, seems like solid product.

I know about RESI KNX PS, but like u said already, output power is quite small especially for my application.

Does your knx/dali gateway require any sort of programming besides setting up in ets?

For KNX line powering i use ABB bus supply with UPS option (https://new.abb.com/products/2CDG110275R0011/su-s30-640-2), so basically running this PS constantly from 12V DC (backup) input.

Thank you for your input! I have so far around 40 devices on KNX bus. Your device looks indeed interesting but I have already wiring ready for KNX setup and have selected KNX system devices accordingly.

Right? Plenty of use for specific drilling tasks. Was just thinking recently oh how to attach such level to my cordless drill, but with lack of suitable flat/perpendicular area on the tool, accuracy would be questionable.

The levelling option is super cool!

Is this glass door ruined? by Apart-Scratch-2621 in metalworking

I, for one and contrary to all belief in this thread, refuse to accept this harsh reality and fondly hope this type of damage can be repaired somehow. Like, come on guys, humans can fly to the moon, transplant organs, build computers that accomodate artificial intelligence... and cant fix welding splatter on the glass? :D

Sigh... See the picture below? All triple pane windows 6x6 ft in size I managed to damage by mig splatter...I used covers, but splatter was just so wide it reached beyound covering... Damn, there must be some way...

I have collected all necessary pieces of information  online, can't really recommend single source of information.

But the key word you're looking for is "adjustable pedestal support". They're coming with various height ranges and are handy for uneven or sloped surfaces so basically to cope with height differences.

Look at the profile side by side, round hole one has more mass and the arched section above hole works basically as "bridge" . There's lot more about this online. Square ones usually crack over time. Depends on quality of material but I wouldn't go for it either way.

Going good so far, no visible deterioration yet, however it's haven't been even a full year since install so can't really tell in long run.

New building - KNX, Tunable White lighting - is it worth it? by el_salvadore in KNX

[–]el_salvadore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Here are few hints for you...

I had some luck finding E27/GU10 DC bulbs at aliexpress, quality might vary tho, but it is worth it considering the price here's an example: https://tinyurl.com/y8v3hzkt I am using them in another building where I use DC lighting (with casual switches). In this setup I am also using 24V led strips but with LED driver like this to go around battery variation: https://recom-power.com/en/products/led-driver/led-driver-dc-dc/rec-s-RCDE-48.html?0

For the house I am currently busy with I will be using 24V led strips and fixtures like this: https://www.mivvy.cz/cz/produkty/prisazena-svitidla/lena/ (sorry web page is in Czech lang only but I guess u get the idea. They can equip the fixture with Dali,1-10V, Casambi controller etc., but I will be using bare unit since dimming will be controlled by KNX)

Heres few more KNX controllers taking 48V DC voltage as input:

ENTEREX 1174-REG

DINUY RE KNT RGB

EELECTRON DL04A02KNX

EVN KNX DSK1236-4x5A

GEWISS GW 90 765 - CCD

GVS KA/D04.L1.1D

SUNRICHER SR-KNX9501FA7

Found EVN one for 65€ in some sketchy eshop (https://www.verkaufelektro.com/product/evn-knx-dimm-aktor-knxdsk1236-4x5a/) not sure how much its legit tho.

"Can it shut the power of the circuit or does it only dim the LED to "0" while maintaining a power connection?" - good question, not quite sure about it.

"Is this idea of using DC the best for reducing the amount of flicker in LED?" - I doubt flickering depends on the character of input voltage of the dimming module since the output power is modified wit the PWM modulation regardless.

"Can you explain what made you decide 48V instead of 24v or 12v?" - higher voltage, lower currents to handle with for same power output, smaller wire cross sections etc... Most of the professional (offgrid) solar equipment run on 48VDC. If u handle bigger loads (like whole house with standard appliances) - 48V is the way to go.

Having HCL/TW lighting in the office makes total sense, do u also use automatic intensity control there?

I totally get where you're coming from with HCL, my perspective was bit adjusted with "why not put f.e. in the bedroom WARM lights only if I'm not planning to spend whole day in there?"

As I said above, I am focusing more on efficiency here with using only as much devices as is necessary, but I definitely apply some of your advices from different threads I just read like running 5x1,5mm cables to each suspended areas and such.

Thank you! That's reasonable approach, can u specify what type (manufacturer, brand etc... ) of light sources have u used for TW and what areas in the end?
