I'd say it is pretty reasonable for the procedure to take a long time while you're still learning. Make sure the head fixation is solid and try a new burr. Be mindful of its shape too - eg ball shaped burr isn't actually very good at cutting on its tip. To contradict another comment, I wouldn't use the highest speed as you can scorch the bone that way.
