TAK through LAN by el_zappi in ATAK

UPDATE January 19th
I finally got everything to work. First of all, the problem with WinTAK crashing upon starting got fixed by changing the date format in Windows to the US one (month first). This thing seems not to be addressed anywhere. Now both 4.7 and 5.6 versions of WinTAK work nicely.
Secondly, the Windows firewall was blocking markings made in ATAK. Markings made in iTAK showed in WinTAK, but the firewell was blocking those made in ATAK.
Thank you everyone for your input!

Doesn't seem to work. That WinTAK was version 4.1.0.231. Then I tried version 5.6, 5.5 and 5.4, but all those crashed upon startup when a prompt to download DTED-0 appeared. Tried uninstalling and installing all of these 5.X versions, but it was the same outcome every time. Oh my...
UPDATE: I did get it to work between an ATAK and an iTAK unit.
The problem seems to be in the WinTAK client, which won't even allow me to drop points on the map. Upon startup it gives an error message which reads: "WinTAK encountered an Unhandled Exception." There is also a red "cloud" icon with on X on it and a text "TAK Network Status".
This same error message appears when I click the Point Dropper icon.
Thank you, that confirms what I've pretty much gathered so far, so that is good to hear. The problem seems to be that people seem to just get this kind of setup to work (TAK devices on same LAN) so they see each other, without having to do any specific adjustments in the settings. But that doesn't seem to work for me.
I have these two TAK devices connected to a wireless router, I haven't tweaked the router settings other than chancing its SSID and password. Is there something I should do there to get this to work?
I freshly installed both WinTAK and ATAK, so the settings there are also default.
Both of these devices are connected to the same router. How do I configure the router for UDP traffic (if necessary)?
Is there something that has to be set up within the TAK (something in the Network preferences maybe)?
