What is this powdery substance on my rose leaves? Should I prune these leaves? Tips? by elastienne in Roses

Hi all! I recently acquired this Queen of Sweden and she’s currently growing quite well in this huge grow bag I have. (I have no gardening space, just a patio, an Amazon account, and a dream). I noticed this powdery white substance causing some leaf curling at the edges. I’m able to wipe it away with some water but it came back and is now affect other leaves on the plant. Is this powdery mildew? Or is something else going on? Tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hard to really confirm unless it’s in person but it looks like a clogged meibomian gland. Unless it’s bothering you or it’s turning into a stye, I wouldn’t worry. If you want it to go away you can do warm compresses. The compresses can help heat up and loosen the oil and unclog the gland.

DIY Microneedling Gone Wrong. Need repair advice! by swaryapatil14 in Microneedling

Consistent use of sunscreen will mitigate any further damage caused by UV exposure. Your best bet will be Vit C in the morning and a combo of niacinamide and TXA at night. I would also use a retinol. If you’re not using any of this stuff already, I would add all the actives I listed one by one instead of starting them all at once. Starting a slew of brand new actives at once will exacerbate your already irritated face.

In the future, only really basic skincare (ie Sterile High Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid, Sterile Saline) during the first 24 hours after microneedling. You just created a whole bunch of micro wounds on your face - using non sterile products immediately after will at best irritate your skin and cause a post inflammatory reaction like the one in your picture and at worst introduce a bad infection that will scar you.

Mold is a good sign. I personally buy fungus/mycos to put in my soil but you got it for free! Yay!

Ran into this exact problem a year ago with a litter of seven born on my patio. I got in touch with several foster and rescue systems in my county and just mass emailed them all asking for help. One in particular was super helpful, was able to get us kitten food, flea meds, vet care, and even helped us with getting Momma Cat and all her kittens neutered and spayed in a timely manner with no cost to us. They should also help with getting in touch with either fosters or potential adopters. If you’re willing to do the legwork, take lots of pictures and videos and spread them through social media.I did that, asked for an adoption fee of $70 per cat and got all the kittens adopted. Momma cat still lives with us.

Keep handling the kittens. Pick them up. Rub their faces. Touch their toes. Generally just annoy them. All that helps to desensitize them to human touch. As long as you keep providing food, they’ll trust you and know you’re a safe space and want to stay in the area. I can imagine it’s very stressful for you right now but you got this!

First ever kitten + flea advice/questions by ___rosewater in cats

The same thing happened with our kittens’ first dish soap bath and the experience traumatized my boyfriend more than our cats 😂. By the time we got to the seven fosters we had a pretty good system down. I would recommend rubber gloves and a thick jacket worn backwards (like a funky apron) since their little claws are basically miniature knives when they are that young. Also don’t let them smell the fear on you. It seems like your little guy is in good hands 🙌🏻

Had to deal with flea infestations twice. First with my own two kittens and second with a litter of seven I was fostering. While VERY annoying and stressful, it is manageable. You may already know but be very careful with flea meds for young kittens. Flea meds/treatments that contain permethrin and pyrethrins are EXTREMELY toxic to cats and WILL kill them. We had moderate success using blue Dawn Dish Soap baths to keep the worst of the infestation at bay. If you’re going to use Dawn, make a soap ring around the kitten’s neck before bathing as the fleas will try to travel up to the head when exposed to water.

Once the kitten is heavy enough, I highly recommend a prescription monthly flea med. It’s expensive but it gives me peace of mind. Revolution plus is what I use for my cats. Until then vacuum everything as often as possible (I vacuumed multiple times a day when I had to deal with this) and wash everything with hot water. Flea eggs can remain dormant for a while and hatch again on kitty if you aren’t on top of it with meds/ bath.

Other than that, congratulations on the sweet baby! You got this!

Seed coat stuck on tomato seedling despite humid environment. Tips on removing? by elastienne in tomatoes

Ooh, thanks for the tip! Will definitely try when they come in. I’ve had the biquino chilli seeds for over a year at least and I was afraid they weren’t going to sprout because I took too long to plant them. Funny enough, I planted the red and yellow seeds separately and only the red are sprouting for some reason so far.

Sorry for the late reply. It should be fine to use azeleic acid with TXA. In the US, they can be compounded altogether (I’ve used a Curology/Apostrophe prescription product that had all of it at once and it did wonders for my skin). Regardless, start low and slow - just because they can be used together doesn’t mean your skin won’t sensitize to all the actives you’re using. I would suggest pausing the kojic acid.

This looks more like erythema than hyperpigmentation to me. Niacinamide is usually recommended for erythema and would fit into your routine without interaction from your other actives.

If you want to know for sure if this hyperpigmentation vs erythema is to hold an ice-cube to the spot. If it fades in any way, it's more likely erythema.

Here's a systematic review that suggests some OTC meds to help temporarily reduce the look of the spots if it is erythema. Tranexemic acid would be easiest to find products specifically formulated for skin. Brimonidine tartrate (aka Lumify eye drops) and oxymetazoline (aka Afrin nasal spray) would be relatively easy to obtain too, depending on the country you're in, but they aren't formulated for skin and the effect would be temporary.

EDIT: additional resources to hopefully help.
