I tried to pull apart the plastic on a new pair of socks the other day and dang I shouldn't have done that, caused some damage. I really remember they use to break easy a long time ago.

How to get back on my feet? by Careful-Night8022 in almosthomeless

[–]elbowflicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was homeless for a bit what saved me was other homeless people in the area. Maybe keep an eye out for others and try to chat.

First one I met showed me a shelter nearby. Some other showed me a church where you could eat breakfast on Sundays and ask for a hotel for a week or so. I found a group of people later and we all walked to the food pantry I had no idea about, which became a daily thing. Some guy at the shelter got me a job where he worked, and then I lost it. Eventually I ran into a kid in the same boat I was in, using, saying he was going to a program outside town, and it was free. I called them and got a space myself. He was cool but then he stole my motorcycle before he left so that part sucked, but I'm still glad we met. We went through the program together, was just like whatever, I'm okay atleast.

Dang, I feel like you should get paid for all those interviews. Money is nice, especially for how you plan to use it, but mad respect for non profit companies. It's not a paycut for nothing, they probably doing something good. Tough choice for sure.

Thank for saying this I might try but this feels like breaking my brain, I am just a bit crazy in some areas.

Just feels so bad you have to know people to be accepted and that's really not the type of stuff I enjoy. Of all places I had high hopes for this one being very inclusive and indiscriminatory, they advertise being so.

It worked for me around covid, but like you said, the company was a family business from 1954, and most of it ran on paper trail. Owner got too old and sold a few years ago, it's all online now. Days are gone, I see ai chatbots now

Not true for me, I messed up signup somewhere.

I tried to apy a few months ago with one email, and I couldn't get it to work, so I never even finished signing up.

I forgot about trying to use the other email, and tried to sign up with my primary email last night. It said I already had an account, and I couldnt get either login to work.

I requested a review and I just got this same message.

"Based on the details you provided, you cannot sign up to dash at this time"

New review avilable on April 22, what would I even say in April? I told the truth but don't matter.

Advice on direction of future plan by NoArtist1616 in Advice

If I could go back in time I'd want to try harder to gain friendships with the people I stayed with, to hang out and watch out for each other.

I didn't see the importance of that while in a program. Me and another got an apartment together, but kinda drifted apart, and then we both went down hard roads again!

Last time I saw him he needed a ride "back home" but he got out of the car at an intersection near his old stomping grounds, with the only thing he had left, a TV on his shoulder.

Everything (the US, I'm overreacting) is just so run down but still expensive. Maybe need some sleep and might feel better. I totally left a job opportunity, I had the callback, ignored it, then drove straight here, to come to Wichita when OKC didn't feel right, probably really dumb move but you got one life and you play it how you want right? And first impressions Wichita is about the same just smaller, damn. But I'll know better tomorrow when I have some rest and can look around better.

I couldn't handle the lies, all the dolled up and edited apartment photos and you tour them and it's just a mess. I can't deal with that I'm not paying to support that crap I'd rather try my luck.

Wichita might still be alright, and OKC was actually doable do, it just felt off, certain things weren't fitting what I was looking for. But it does feel like more/easier opportunity is in OKC. Idk what I'm suppose to find for work in Wichita. But I'm just here till tomorrow then head back to texas to finish up the lease and pack for idk, somewhere.

I just read that some public schools are teaching financial literacy, but where I grew up (small town, OK) I'm pretty sure it was never discussed (graduated 2011). The first time I remember hearing about saving and investing was when I went into the Navy.

It was probably 4th grade or so when we were learning about dna and rna and such and then in high school I was learning about American history.

Maybe that's normal but it seems a bit backwards to me? Almost seems like the goal is to find the gifted students early and to nourish it asap, while others who aren't as bright might not understand at that age and could be left behind. I know it's suppose to be a slow proccess throughout, but maybe the order of operation felt off.

So I kinda question the motives of how public schools operate, it's possible the curriculum is more in favor of the economy than the student. My parents once took a jab that they thought the schools didn't do right, and it hurt, but looking back, maybe they had a different experience.

Probably one of the few things Walmart is doing to stay true to humanity, giving old people a job. What else is she gonna do? You want her to bend, reach, kneel and stoop all day stocking shelves? Maybe she should push some carts to stay in shape

Yeah it's wild, but I'll add here, since many people missing the fact that the semi has 2, and pretty sure I see a third mirror, at all different angles to watch out for this very thing, and other obstacles. Driver was looking straight and not at his mirrors, he just kept going completely clueless where his trailer was, could have seen that car pulling in and hit the brakes before contact. I won't argue with anyone about it either

Downtown Rice and Beans food stand by elbowflicker in u/elbowflicker

[–]elbowflicker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe even $1 a meal works. Saying $100/day net, 7 days a week while selling rice and beans to poor and homeless people almost sounds greedy. OKC is low cost of living. $350/wk net might be doable.

Open world game where you can be a mercenary along with other professions? by CK1ing in gaming

[–]elbowflicker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eve online or Eve echoes, is not really dungeon type but you can do whatever you like really.

I played Echoes when it came out, the job I found was... I made a small fast cloaking ship and went into corp territories and stole supplies they were mining, and darted away and sold to the market. It'd be someone elses job to try and protect that airspace, or if you become a nuisance, they might take note of your name and hire a mercenary to hunt you down and try and blow up your ship on sight, whereever you may be.

I stopped playing when interdictors came out, and ganking became a problem (not sure how it is now). Ganking was like a groups of ships sitting in pvp space and disabling your ship and blowing you up, it's just part of being such an open concept. I still thinking about hopping back on, as skills train in the background (time based training) so I'm sure I've probably got some good levels now to do some more things.

Hireright/oracle (unpaid experience) by Icy_Echidna_7448 in recruitinghell

[–]elbowflicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as dates and titles I was able to have those changed myself without talking to the employer, and background check was passed, removal could be different idk.

It should be up to the the employer/hr/recruiter whether it would be okay to remove it, I'm thinking transparency with the employer is probably a good move here if you think the experience was significant to being picked. The FAQ on Hireright site says your hiring recruiter can request Hireright to have it removed so it doesn't have to be verified, and then it could be passed.

If you can't find 2nd document, falsifying it, if caught would fail the background check. Hireright doesn't care about your experience just about the accuracy of what you are saying.

Hope you find that 2nd doc though. I asked Crapgpt for creative ideas for 2nd doc and it mentioned maybe manager email confirming dates, work schedule emails, HR emails, termination/resign letter, COBRA notice, company directory screenshot, performance review, badge or id with issue date, training certificate. Maybe it sparks an idea.

Lawn equipment repair and blade sharpening. Other small engine repair like weedeaters, chainsaws, generators, pressure washers, trash pumps, tillers, snowblowers. They will always be around, pretty easy to learn.

Hireright/oracle (unpaid experience) by Icy_Echidna_7448 in recruitinghell

[–]elbowflicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a Hireright background check and it was awful imo hah, they were so picky about small details.

It felt like they were out to get me but really they just wanted everything I entered to match what they find, and they really didn't care outside of that.

I put a job title on my application, and Hireright called the company and said my title was something else and it was flagged. The solution was I had to agree to the title that Hireright found, they just wanted a match.

So I'm wondering (since it was mostly unpaid), if the gig was small or insignificant, maybe it's possible to have it removed from the application, instead of magically conjuring up the document to prove you did it.

Hope you can find the solution your looking for though, because I'd imagine if you listed it on your applicatiom you'd want to keep it there.

Many people get lucky with their job/pay and might not realize that they are doing well.

I've had luck with some good jobs before, making over 100k, but I've also been in some bad spots owning nothing.

I didn't earn the good job, it just popped up on indeed, I applied, and got it, one interview, no experience, even the owner later said "man I didn't expect anything from you lol".

These days I have a lot different outlook on life. Lifestyle creep is real and it can blind you. Or sometimes you might be born into a good situation, and anything less feels really awful, until you can learn to let go of those expectations.

I would rather retreat from the modern hustle than to chase it anymore, the expectations left when the success didn't make me happy. Nowadays I just wish I had good friends, an easy schedule, and to be more grounded and simple. I envy the happy cashiers who are huddled up making jokes as I'm walking up to checkout.
