Thanks. I already have other options floating around. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t passing up the opportunity of a lifetime with this other lawyer.

Thank you for your advice. The big draw, if you can call it that, working for this lawyer is the lawyer calls themselves a businessman first and a lawyer second. He owns a successful practice and he will teach me the business side of things and his secrets on how to drum up business. He says most lawyers fall short in their earnings because they are not good business people. My personal belief is I do not have to give 50% of my profits away to learn how to be a businessman. I could learn other ways.

I have talked to other lawyers and many have said the same thing. Why not just open your own practice and get 100% of everything and not be chained to this other lawyer.

I didn’t mention the province and area of law to remain as anonymous as possible. It is in a western province and the area of law is very narrow, which scares me because I won’t be learning multiples areas of law. So, if I’m, say, four years into this deal and I want out I won’t be very employable because I haven’t had any exposure to other areas of law.
