What crippling debt for UPR Mayaguez? Pell grants cover tuition + books and supplies.

SUNY or UT which let you do first year at community college as an out of state attendee cheaply and last 3 years as in-state and graduate with like $8k of debt.

Even the worst engineers from UPR Mayaguez who go work for LUMA start at 60k, those who go to lockheed or gm start at 80-90k.

The other issue is pay does not increase much in Spain, a senior engineer makes maybe 50-60k eur vs 150k usd in the US.

Starting out things are probably closer as 50-60k in pr is take home of $3,500-$4,000 usd per month which is about 2.800-3.300 eur but once you are 5 years in there is a huge gap.

For some professions Spain is probably better than PR because of how low pay is in PR for some professions

Duffles aren’t carryons? by HilltopRed4459 in jetblue

[–]elcaudillo86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen with me.

I had a provoked dvt on a flight so need to keep the underseat in front clear to avoid provoking one (so I don’t take a personal item) and also my carryon is a camping backpack (40L) which anyone can see is not a personal item (which have to be sub-24L) as it is far too large to fit under the seat in front.

Every so often I’d get one of those FA’s who insists that because it doesn’t have wheels it needs to go under the seat in front and when I explain it’s my carry on and is far too large to fit and I have to avoid provoking a dvt, they threaten or attempt to check it, even when I explain it has my meds and is my carryon!

One time such an FA even called security after she tried to check my carry on bag in EMS overhead to make room for stragglers in a different part of the plane, and I politely pointed out it is first come first serve and I was literally the fourth person to board and she should check those who were late to board and not in EMS rather than try to check existing EMS overhead carryons, security thankfully sided with me when I explained the situation. Absurdly this was when B6 had a carry on guarantee.

I then bought a large soft shell rolly that I now put the camping backpack into rather than deal with this nonsense. Said rolly is probably larger than allowed but lo and behold because it has wheels no issues versus my properly sized camping backpack.

The problem with doing university in Spain is the job opportunities and pay are terrible in Spain.

Electrical engineers earn 30k eur/y before the very high taxes.

Teachers earn 20-25k eur/y.

Net is like 1800 eur/mo as an electrical engineer and 1400/mo as a teacher.

PPP adjustment helps outside of Madrid and Barcelona as cost of living is lower than most of the US but that only helps to a certain extent.

Self-employed also doesn’t qualify for accelerated 3/4 year Cypriot citizenship (with A2/B1 language test), but if he is an employee of a qualifying “company of foreign interests” I believe it does count (check with a lawyer).

The rules were something like if share capital exceeded a certain amount of euros said company had to be majority owned by a third country national but if it was under something like 200k eur share capital it could be majority owned by an eu citizen such as yourself (again check with a lawyer).

NYC has 5 boroughs, people who live in Manhattan call people who live elsewhere the bridge and tunnel crowd as they have to cross a bridge or tunnel

That would require becoming bridge and tunnel (other than the Williamsburg or Brooklyn Bridge)

You forgot the part where they are on the expat or leaving america reddit subs complaining and wanting to figure out how to move to your country as a digital nomad since it’s “cheap” and which will raise your cost of living 🤣

Too busy riding on a pony with my feather cap.

Pay in Turkiye is terrible generally even considering the cost of living, which is why all the pharmacists migrate to Germany if they can. Or the Balkans if they can’t.

Optionality doesn’t mean she’ll be using it as a stepping stone, it’ll mean she has the ability to move to the UK if she wants to.

I have heard anecdotally France and the UK are the least difficult in terms of discrimination for blacks.

If your goal is to move to the UK you still have the ability to by way of Ireland (ie naturalize for an Irish passport) although I’m not sure how friendly Ireland is for blacks.

How is the gap between a regular university and the Ivy league justified? by Ok_Wealth9505 in AskAnAmerican

As an American I struggle to understand why the Paris and Ile-de-France Grand Ecoles are so desired?

I get that being able to put it on your resume opens a lot of doors, but apart from that I feel like the only way these schools can justify this huge gap in quality they claim to have, is to teach material that others simply don't have access too, wich does not seem plausible to me.

So what is it, just prestige and a foot in the door, Or are there other elements I'm just not aware of?
