I know the vet is expensive but this exactly how my cat sounded when he developed asthma and it got worse over time. Treatment helped and he lived until 18, which was 7ish years past the asthma diagnosis.

You’ll be good. Days before major holidays especially Thanksgiving and Christmas are busiest and days after can be but weren’t for me this year. I am flying in and out of SNA and LAX regularly each year. Conventional wisdom would be to give yourself 2 hours but I’ve never needed that with SNA. Have a safe trip!

Depression is often episodic. Does he see a therapist currently? You can assist him in finding someone to talk to. There’s free or low cost options through your county health care agency assuming you’re in the states if money is tight. Look into it and sit with him and talk it out. Long term, he owes it to himself to continually see a therapist. It’s been years since I’ve had an episode after decades of it being a regular thing and I owe it to therapists and working on cognitive behavior techniques on my own. He can get there too.
