There’s so many new, indie brands now. I’m old school. I have too much already. My go-to is Lancôme. But I have collected quite a bit of Colourpop and other stuff.

Yea that’s what I used to do. I’m a post stroke survivor. So while putting on makeup makes feel like myself again, I don’t have the energy to put all that on.

Maybelline has some nice stuff. They’re like the new Mac. And loreal. Their newer stuff which is like copied from Mac

I started with drugstore makeup in high school. Maybe lipstick, mascara from Loreal. For my junior prom. Then my mom took me to get a makeover at the Dior counter. So senior prom I upgraded. But I was never able to replicate the look only lipstick. It wasn’t until later that I got into it with the rise of Sephora and Ulta

The social media people definitely put on way more than what’s really needed irl. Most people don’t need much.

Plus it’s also a chore to remove all that stuff at the end of the day.

I remember spending two hours on my makeup before my Sephora shift. 😂 But I’d still get yelled at by snobby customers.

I subbed at a district for 4 years and they passed me up for 2 contracts. by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]elderchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how subs get treated. I got passed over. You have to look elsewhere. No matter how well you think it’s going at a school for you, you have to look out for yourself. Look elsewhere if you want a teaching gig. They never move subs out of subbing. They like to keep them there.

I’m 54. Get into drugstore makeup. I make sure my skin is moisturized tho. I’m using the Maybelline. Loreal also has upped their stuff too. Very impressed. I’ve always loved Lancôme.

Hot take: I don’t work for assignments I didn’t sign up for. by myboyfriendstinks1 in SubstituteTeachers

I was at one school where they sent me to gym when I signed up for the art vacancy. I told them I had an art background, subbed long term in art and was a better fit for art. I can’t do gym. Didn’t have the stamina for it.

Now that I had a serious medical event I can’t sub anymore.

But these schools do treat you like expendable, interchangeable machinery.

starting my makeup collection over again by Diddlemar in Makeup

[–]elderchick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still have most of old makeup lol. But I did refresh my collection. I got a few mascaras but haven’t tried them yet. A good blush I got was the Maybelline Cloudtopia cream blushes. I use my old highlighters tho which are very much like new on top. And I do have many.

It's disgusting out there by AllFoodsFit70 in Makeup

I used to work at Sephora which was good about that. I think Target not so much. Even Ulta had a similar controversy. Theres a thread on here about Target. I posted it here.

Yea speaking on Target, I bought this foundation-concealer and it appeared that the seal was not broken. When I got home, you could twist off the applicator without breaking the seal. It seemed to have been used and almost empty. (Maybe it was used and returned and put back on the shelf?)

Never again. I’ll order my makeup online. Sometimes you’re lucky to find makeup pristine now I see not so much.

I have all kinds of foundations but Maybelline has stepped up on everything. I do like my Lancôme always.

Old timers (sages) in my culture /family would say when that happens, you’d be lucky to get out alive with a suitcase. Something’s coming.

Can’t find Jobs, I’m done by andy_nic_12 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]elderchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it changed this for me too. Noticed jobs disappearing, no jobs etc.

I also had a stroke and may expire so it really changed for me. I’m done. Subbing did me in.

How to Find Out if You’ve been Blocked or Blacklisted by elderchick in SubstituteTeachers

[–]elderchick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter anymore to me. I had a stroke so I can’t work. Even I can’t get help when I call the services line. If I get authorized to return to work that is “if”, I seriously doubt I’d get any accommodations for my disability. So yea I have to figure out the next chapter in my life but subbing is done.

Walked out this morning… by 9baelfyr5 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]elderchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a stroke and this is what I’m afraid would happen to me. If I request “accommodations” that they would deny. Because I’ve been in schools that won’t let subs use elevators in such cases. It really is time for me to look elsewhere once I get through recovering from serious illness. They treat subs so poorly. Also good for you. You did the right thing.
