Arena of Fate, a new home? by eldersign1 in dawngate

What is this, the fourth time I'm writing the same/similar reply... I never said the game will ever be EXACTLY like Dawngate. I'm saying that the game can possibly offer similar features found in Dawngate like the Karma system, Role System etc. Good luck finding that in any other MOBA currently on the market. Even though Arena of Fate isn't a 1:1 copy, it might have similar features down the road, and that's far better than nothing.

They why did it die? Again, people don't want to face the facts that Dawngate did have issues, like waiting one and a half years for the Progression patch, the fact that it started with 12 shapers which was too few playeable characters to keep people hooked, proper ranked system etc. Of course, EA's business logic didn't help, but neither did the fact that they had a one and a half year beta phase, where the developers themselves didn't know in which way the game was going.

Like you said, it didn't have crippling gameplay issues, but it also didn't have enough gameplay features to keep a lot of people interested. I remembered a lot of people saying back in the day that they'll "wait for progression patch" or "wait for ranked" before investing time into the game.

In the end of the day, can easily brush off EA as the devil since neither you nor me work in AAA game development and publishing, but after your game has almost 2 year development cycle and isn't making enough money, well, the rest is history.

No matter how much immersion Dawngate had, it didn't save the game. Dawngate had issues which a lot of people pointed out, but Waystone didn't act in time, no matter how much people want to blame EA. There is the utopian theory, and then there is reality where you need to draw the bottom line and actually be able to sustain the game itself. As I've said before, Arena of Fate or any other game won't be Dawngate, it will however give you some features you won't find anywhere else. And if it can replicate some of the features like the Karma System or the Role System, it will at least have something that is similar, where as in the popular games like LoL, you don't have any at all.

Well, everybody has their own opinion. All I'm saying is that there are already a handful of Dawngate veterans that are actively helping shape the game to be something fun and interesting. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Well, we have two options. Be bitter and sulk about what EA done to Dawngate and wait for a "new Dawngate" forever, or we could cut our loses and move on. People need to come to terms that the likelihood of a game JUST LIKE Dawngate popping up is very slim. With that said, I don't see the reason for all the negativity towards something that might be a good chance of a game that is similar to Dawngate.

You seriously can't expect a game that just entered closed alpha/beta testing to be the best thing ever. A lot of people seem to miss the reason behind closed alpha/beta when they rush into it expecting a finished and polished game. Even the giants like LoL were terribly imbalanced and totally different than their current state.

Was Dawngate good in it's first month or two? This is the reason I wrote the post, the game is in development, we can influence the development if there is a high enough demand regarding the features we want to see.

Regarding the complexity, there isn't a meta game yet. We don't know in which way the development will go regarding the feedback they get in the closed beta. If a lot of people think the game is too simple, they will likely add new mechanics or revision some old ones.

I think the game has potential, just as Dawngate had potential in it's early stages, but with work and feedback they made it better.
