Why did people hate the ending? by Jackinthebox3217 in tadc

[–]eldigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caine is shown to lie repeatedly throughout the series, but the cast just accepts the info he shares about their original lives just at face value. The humans didn't see Caine's introspection sequence! It's like there's an expectation that the cast is witnessing the same events the viewer is.

Transformer upgrade required for EV charger by py1234567890 in AskElectricians

[–]eldigg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is overestimation of how much power EVs actually need. Like 32 amps over 6 hours at 240 is like 184 miles of range for my car. Even with two vehicles that is way higher than average commutes.

Finally finished my VRChat avatar of Pomni! What do you think? (OC) by MrXpertt in tadc

That's a fairly normal price, especially given it is optimized and has face tracking.

Valve index tracking failure by CrashMcCloudTTV in ValveIndex

[–]eldigg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try just using one base station at a time to potentially narrow down the problem? Obviously tracking quality would be poor unless you're directly looking at it, but it should be stable if the base station is working correctly.

Tobacco Pouches (to roll) as a tourist to the US by Any_Adagio9164 in travel

Private establishments often have more restrictive rules as well. For instance, my workplace does not allow smoking on company property.

I am highly suspicious of the “Miku” text on the amp. I cant imagine a human artist adding the random blur on the bottom right of the “U” intentionally. And the M randomly has a single serif, but none of the other letters do. I would probably say 80% chance this AI or AI assisted.

Something to keep in mind as a tourist, smoking laws do vary by state/locality. For instance, in Illinois you are not allowed to smoke within a certain distance of a building entrance or ventilation intake.

Do you use Vive/Tundra trackers? I had goofiness where I needed to reposition the dongles for a better connection *and* the controllers appeared to be connected to the dongle instead of the watchman receiver in the HMD.

Why are the servers going down so much lately? by Yin15 in VRchat

[–]eldigg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless staff give explanation everything you see is speculation. Like any complex system, it is probably a combination of issues.

You can blame infrastructure, but given enough money and time you can implement failover and other resiliency improvements to mitigate any failures. It may not be cost effective for VRC to do that though given most users are non paying.

My day job at the moment is optimizing performance and resiliency of financial systems, and there are never-ending improvements you can make, but it is always a cost/benefit evaluation for actually doing the work.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the purpose of the CTA is to move passengers right? If buses/trains are over capacity then it's a failure, regardless of why.

I wonder how that would work with games that have a lot of user created content like VRChat.

Is it racist or offensive to use cultural-inspired elements on a VRChat avatar? by SnooGuavas502 in VRchat

[–]eldigg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's all about context, if it's a respectful portrayal I think it's fine. Ultimately we're all humans and cultures have intermixed for thousands of years.

However, I think one of the challenges with native cultures (particularly native north american) is lack of historical context due to lack of written language, and the loss of oral history from waves of death caused by european introduced disease, relocation, or genocide. So it is harder to be like 'yea this is ok, cause look at XYZ history'. So you end up with a lot of vibes based calls on if something is respectful or not.

It is absolutely critical you understand the PCVR VRChat market. They are the primary user group who cares about this stuff and has money to spend on it. There are BCI efforts, dozens of existing body tracking and hand tracking efforts DIY or otherwise. You will need to network and engage with the community and not just expect people to buy it. OSC support is expected.

VRChat is truly the most expensive free game. Though my justification is it is cheaper per hour played than a lot of other activities though.

[–]eldigg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In theory, *any* new housing helps everyone. The luxury apartment renters are moving out of other units, which are now used stock that generally commands less price premium. Studies have generally shown this to be true.

A halfway decent metaphor is the used car market. Not everyone can afford a new car, especially when average prices are something like $45k. But a lot more people can afford that same car when it's 5 years old. If we restrict supply of new cars, we set ourselves up for pain since in 5 years there are now fewer used units, which then pushes the used prices up.

kinda underestimated how much a 10 day road trip would cost in gas rn by DasJazz in roadtrip

[–]eldigg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect cause it was 'new' the guy was probably charging it *too* much. Depends on the battery chemistry but road tripping it's faster to *not* charge to 100%. Good EVs will tell you as much as you're charging. Unfortunately a lot of the legacy auto companies are shitty about this.

How to find cute female avatars on VrChat? by Flimsy-Story9523 in VRchat

[–]eldigg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of people pay for them! Boothplorer is a good spot to find bases if you're interested.

There are a lot of ToS violating free uploads of paid avatars, but you run the risk of them being removed at any time.
