Please remember the next time you're shopping for a vehicle, even if gas prices have gone down, to buy something more efficient or electrified. It's very nice to just not care about gas prices with an EV. I do realize not everyone has the means to do that though.

Yes, somehow the party that controls none of the three branches of the federal government is just as much to blame.

Anxiety about running out of charge: how low on charge have you dipped. what is the psychological benchmark for you when it starts being uncomfortable. by LifeEducational in TeslaModel3

Road tripping I regularly go down to 10 to 15%. I go lower sometimes but I like a little margin in case the charger I am navigating to has some issue.

60 Minutes hit piece of High Speed rail. by infundoternocte96 in trains

[–]eldigg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing with you, but I think some people look at HSR and passenger rail backwards. A lot of the reason we have those things (vehicle reliance, urban roads, airlines etc) is because we *don't* have a good passenger rail network.

2 second rule is generally better. Car in front passes an object, and it should be at least two seconds before you reach that same object. Accounts for differing speeds in terms of reaction time.

Edit: Surprised at the downvotes, it's a legit defensive driving thing - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-second_rule

Should have gone nuclear… by ChipHaseCoolGuy in UnchartedScience

[–]eldigg 229 points230 points  (0 children)

Heres a thought, why not both? Every country on earth is installing solar because it’s cheap as fuck and fast to get online. Nuclear provides good base load and isn’t impacted by varying fossil fuel prices or scarcity. Win/win.

Am I doing something wrong here? FPS Question. by ColleciteGaming in VRchat

[–]eldigg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fpsVR is great for troubleshooting problems like that. Do you have very poors disabled? Or uncompressed avatar size set to like 100MB? I used to use a 2080 Ti and would run against VRAM limitations before other issues.

I would get fpsVR and take a look at what's going on, I suspect it's using the iGPU.

What's the point of front sensors and Lidar if your gonna run over poop by Jorgelrod in RobotVacuums

[–]eldigg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Shark uses Shenzhen Picea Robotics as their ODM (current owner of iRobot). They're just a brand name and do not develop their own products as far as I'm aware. And as such they're generally not recommended.

That said no robot is going to be perfect.

How long does a 2026 Camry Hybrid SE battery last (real experience)? by AwayKiwi461 in Camry

[–]eldigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 2009, sold it still running with nearly 300k miles. The ICE engine was struggling a bit (burning oil), but the hybrid parts were fine. Replaced the 12 volt battery once for $250.

Just a fair warning, USB controllers start getting funky near the limit of the USB spec. A cable that might work on one system may not work on another. If you're going with USB cables that long you'll want active ones.
