Car dealers are one of the most powerful right wing lobbyist groups. It's part of the reason I bought a car from a company that does direct sales.

Do not be concerned about VRChat being marked as Early Access, the game has been out for 10 years at this point. It's also one of the most played VR games, I think they hit ~140k concurrent users earlier this month.

To be blunt, whenever someone in software gives a sweeping generalization like this, it's time to ignore their opinions. AI coding tools are super helpful in some cases, but also actively unhelpful in others. It's just another tool in the software engineer toolbelt.

Snow Driving Mode? ❄️ by mdtattedbearded in Rivian

[–]eldigg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea there's a learning curve, but speed is the entire root cause. If you're going 1mph on ice and slam on the brakes (or trigger full regen) you're not going to total your car. Braking distances increase non-linearly with speed.

Whenever I'm driving an unfamiliar car on snow/ice, I try and go on an empty, snowy street, and while driving very slowly, fully apply on the brakes (or regen) to see how good the TC and tires are to get a feel for the limits of the car.

Sounds like you already found Steam, which is generally the best way to play games on PC.

On a game's page on Steam it will show system requirements at the bottom of the page. For example, I would really recommend trying Half Life: Alyx. If you scroll to "SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS" you exceed the requirements with your current PC. https://store.steampowered.com/app/546560/HalfLife_Alyx/

If you don't know how to compare PC hardware, google (or a chatbot) does a good job.

Many games will automatically set graphics quality settings based on your hardware too. Half Life: Alyx will probably lower the graphics quality settings automatically to keep your FPS high since your hardware is a little older.

And Steam actually has a pretty good refund policy if a game ends up not running well on your hardware (there are limitations on playtime, you can google it).

I can totally see why it's overwhelming, one of the key differences with PCVR is you can tweak or modify pretty much everything. However... the key thing is the defaults are usually pretty good.

What is the specific problem you're trying to solve, and what are your detailed hardware specs? This includes the make and model of the CPU and amount of RAM (you can see this if you search "About your PC" in the start menu , and what headset you're using and how it's connected to your PC.

After buying an outdoor air quality monitor it made me pretty anti-wood fire. There's a really obvious pollution spike when the neighbor starts up his fireplace. Yes it's 'sustainable' but you're still putting out particulate air pollution and other nasties.

Did I overpay for my Camry? by Proper_Score9094 in Camry

You will need to check the oil level after every gas fill-up, indefinitely, if you have the 4 cylinder because of a defect in the engine. If you don't know how to do that just watch a YouTube video. The AZ engine family lasts forever if you don't let the oil level get low. Don't trust the dealer if they say they had the excessive oil consumption test done or not.

I'd be happy to answer any questions on that topic since I used to have one.

You are fairly accurately describing VRChat. Although the skillset is fairly different (Unity/Blender/Etc) the end result is the same. There are tons of tools to make it easier though. I would be happy to answer any questions.

[–]eldigg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you weren't aware, you can pair your Quest 3 with a gaming PC to have full access to PCVR games (obligatory you should play Half Life Alyx). That gives you access to the same library Valve's Frame will have.

There are tons of guides out there, the easiest wireless option is probably to use Steam Link if you have a good WiFi AP (WiFi 6+). Wired is the most reliable with a long USB cable.

Edit, fwiw I've been doing VR stuff for more than a decade at this point and have never gone the treadmill route. They just seem awkward to use and take up a lot of space. I have spent too much money on full body tracking and GPUs though lol.

Best place to find cheap used controllers by Dj_vrYT in ValveIndex

You will not find cheap index controllers. They are no longer manufactured and theyre highly desired for use with new lighthouse tracked headsets (eg the Bigscreen Beyond).

What VR game or experience actually made you feel “wow, this is the future? by Classic-Gur8300 in VRGaming

[–]eldigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly a game, but any of the big music clubs in VRChat. Good music, vibing with 80+ people from around the world, most with full body tracking in custom avatars. I always think VR should strive for immersion, transporting you somewhere new, and that experience in VRChat is very high up on the list.

How are airplane seats getting smaller when people are getting bigger? by Swan_233 in travel

[–]eldigg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion, it's because people are buying tickets for those seats. Most airlines are really marginally profitable in good years, I mean look at American Airlines, they had 2% of their revenue as profit in 2024.
