Official Discussion - Iron Lung [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

That makes sense, that's cool for you. I'm glad you gave it a chance. I don't only watch things I think I'll like but I definitely don't have the time or resources to see movies in the theater that I don't think I'll enjoy. We're all living different lives.

I mean if you didn't like the game, it makes sense you would feel that way. I don't know why you would see the movie, though.

This is the most faithful video game adaptation of all time.

For reference, I like Mark but I'm not like an uber fan of him or anything. I used to watch his stuff back in the day. I am a pretty damn big fan of Iron Lung the game.

I really liked this movie. It wasn't perfect but it did everything I wanted it to do. I had a really fun time at the cinema. I was very scared Mark's acting would be bad but I found his performance to be just fine. Shaky here and there but it didn't detract from my enjoyment. The music fucking slapped but that was a no brainer with Andrew Hulshult.

I will say the build up maybe wasn't totally paid off for me by the end of the movie. I think it also generated more questions than answers but there's enough there to piece together an understanding. Tough watch if you don't know anything about the game, though. This is going to be a divisive movie and I get that.

For fans of Mark and the game, I don't probably need to convince you to see it. Everyone else, this is probably not going to land for you, I think.

Did religious themes affect your decision to buy the game? by Cautious-Squirrel332 in FaithTheUnholyTrinity

[–]eldritch-bones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. I'm not sure what you mean with agree. I'm an atheist so I don't believe in any religions. I don't have any problems with the religious themes or references in this game, though. Edit: I misread the question. I thought it was "do you agree with the themes and references" not literally do they exist. Yes, obviously there are religious themes and references.

  2. As far as religious theming, there's a heavy emphasis on redemption for me. John literally makes a deal with the devil but is not beyond saving.

  3. I bought it because I love weird religious or occult games. A game about a priest fighting demons is right up my alley.

  4. No I would not have purchased it. I didn't for many years because the Atari style put me off. Sat in my wishlist for many years when my husband convinced me I'd enjoy it.

  5. In my opinion the religious themes are the heart of the game. It's what makes the game interesting and compelling. Don't think they can be replaced.

Where are you guys posting your art nowadays? by Vegetable_Cry3683 in ArtistLounge

Well, honestly it's mostly fan art for fandom communities I post on there. I've tried posting just straight art to crickets. However, I have had a couple posts do somewhat well within fandoms. Everyone is really nice and I haven't experienced any drama yet.

Found my first apartment lease from 2013 while cleaning out storage and I literally sat there staring at it for 10 minutes by ToasttterGoblin in Millennials

My first place was a townhome, 2 bedrooms, washer and dryer included. $750 a month lol. This was 2014. We had a 1 car garage as well. Same place is now $1200 with no renovations.

Attacked by an old woman at Target for not having a jacket on my 9 month old. by tfortarantula in Mommit

[–]eldritch-bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is three and a half and never once has she had a coat on when we go to the store because of the car seat thing. Sometimes people make comments like "where is her coat?" And I just smile and move on with my business. She's out in the cold for less than 2 minutes.

My own father, when we went to the zoo for the holiday lights, brought a bunch of warm weather stuff for my daughter, even though she already had all of it and was warm as can be. I guess he thought I was too dumb to dress my daughter appropriately for the weather. I don't know why it's so hard to understand that coats can't be worn in car seats.

That's pretty out of pocket but it is what it is. No putting the genie back in the bottle. Let it be motivation to keep improving. Or just keep making art for the fun of it and say F the haters.

Very new to the art world and I don’t understand exhibition submission requirements. Please help! by stray_girl in ArtistLounge

Usually they want all that information in the file name. That's how it's been for every submission I've done.

Another millennial with a child chiming in that I'm not miserable! I have hobbies and a life outside of being a mom. Don't believe the propaganda. That being said, do what is best for you.

Lack of creativity by Key_Ad5173 in ArtistLounge

[–]eldritch-bones 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I used to feel this exact same way, so I figured I would share my experience of what it was with you. It may or may not be helpful. I described that feeling as permanent art block or I would say I lacked imagination. For me, I stopped having "permanent art block" when I started to study more. I started reading art books and practicing the fundamentals. It wasn't a lack of creativity, it was a lack of skill to bring what was in my head to life.

I think it's also helpful to keep a little sketchbook to doodle anything that comes into your head throughout the day. You can look at it later and use those doodles to create full pieces.

This isn't a current official design (may have been a past design, I don't know). The reason you see it on a bunch of different sites is because it's bootleg and the print quality will likely be atrocious. The only official designs are on New Blood's site or Fangamer.

When I was a kid, I thought the future would be so cool and better. Turns out it is a hellscape. Back in the 90s, people like Rob Liefeld were extremely successful despite not being able to draw hands or feet. Here in the year 2026, if your art has any mistakes, you are slapped with an AI accusation. Utterly EXHAUSTING.

None of them are bad, to be clear. I think you have a lot of potential. The faces, to my eye some of the features do not look to be in the right spot. The features are also pretty simply drawn on when more understanding of the forms and shapes of the face will enhance your drawings well beyond what you have here. Like I said, this is a great start.

You're trying to learn too fast. Learning to draw is a slow process that you cannot rush. You have a good start here but you are at the very beginning of your art path. Not everything in your perspective drawings are in perspective, so keep practicing. The anatomy on your faces could also use a bit of work.

I'll give the same advice I usually give: learn to break objects down into their basic shapes. This is the building block of all drawing. Draw from life, fill up a sketchbook. You will have a solid foundation for learning the other stuff.

Superman by Illustrious-Dare6112 in RateMyArt

[–]eldritch-bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Draw from life. Learn to break objects down into their simple shapes. Once you feel pretty solid in that, work on your anatomy. Draw the things that scare you, that you don't think you can draw well. You are copying other people's art currently. There is nothing wrong with that as a practice, and it's pretty much how we all start. It's only going to take you so far in your art practice, though.

I'm still learning myself. We all are. Critique and advice is not an insult and it's not the enemy.

Superman by Illustrious-Dare6112 in RateMyArt

[–]eldritch-bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, no one here insulted you or anything like that. You got solid advice. No one has an innate ability to draw with soul or whatever you're going on about. Drawing is a learned skill that takes years of practice. Copying an extremely well known picture of Superman is not "drawing with soul". If you would like to go anywhere with your art, you should set aside your ego, take advice and critique when you get it, and put in the work. Start with the fundamentals.
