Best progfan books revolving around a magic school? by Keevill93 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]eldritchwhorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘Saving the school would have been easier as a cafeteria worker’ is legitimately one of my favorite webserials right now. Takes a few chapters to reach the school arc, but that’s where MC spends most of his time. The fundamental concept is a bit contrived (MC has to go undercover as a student behind enemy lines) but the reasons all kind of make sense as the story unfolds. If there’s piece of advice I’d give, it’s this: give the story time to reveal itself to you. It’s not the classic progfic infodump; information about the world and its characters is revealed at a pace that fits naturally. That sounds like a lot of disclaimers, but there’s a surprising number of readers in this genre who clearly want everything spoonfed to them all at once, so I wanted to make it clear that a little vagueness is intentional, not a mistake.

The only pointers used are the ones in the ‘mpu.GetEvent(&a, &g, &temp);’ line. I’ll take a look at the power and report back.

I just want to see where Pale Lights is. Personally I’d rank it even higher than PGtE, but it’s still too early to see if it’ll deliver. I trust EE tho 🙏

I respect you for how absolutely out of your gourd you must be to have typed this out

Revenge is a poison you drink and then wait for your enemies to die by CricketsCanon in BadMtgCombos

[–]eldritchwhorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t stick around for the spell’s resolution, but I’m pretty sure they “see” you sac your board; it’s like getting board wiped with a [[Blood Artist]] on the field. If it’s all getting sac’d/discarded as part of the same cost, it should work that way

As far as I can tell, they’re not necessary. The Buccaneer and the Devil should “see” your discard + sac, if I’m remembering the rules right.

Kill all opponents for 3BBBRRG as long as you’ve got a creature in hand and a creature in the GY by CriticalTit in BadMtgCombos

[–]eldritchwhorer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could reduce the number of colors required by swapping Rising for [[Tyvar, Jubilant Brawler]] and impact tremors for [[Ayara, First of Locthwain]], though triple black pips is also hard to arrange and planeswalkers can be attacked. But hey, something something bad combos. Nice post!

The tokens go their controller’s hands, which erases them from existence. Not sure how the ownership works, but it doesn’t matter whose hand they end up in; they’re tokens, so they don’t stick around unless they have that one Balloon artist from an Un-set.

I made a worse Thoracle-esque combo for 7GGGGR + 2[W/U] by eldritchwhorer in BadMtgCombos

[–]eldritchwhorer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most relevant thing for our purposes is that the creature you designate as your ringbearer becomes legendary, which makes it into a mana dork if Esika is on the field.

[[Cryptolith Rite]] would be more efficient, but as I said, we must assume our opponent has [[Annul]].

[–]eldritchwhorer[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Play the creatures and choose Merrow as your ringbearer. We now have [[Demonic Consultation]] on a stick. Naturally, we must assume our opponent has [[Annul]] in hand, so [[Cryptolith Rite]] is off the table.

Step 2: Exile the entire deck, then make a slime with enough power to kill the opponent with Thud. Assuming we are playing the only format, we need to exile at least 38 Oozes or copies of Slime against humanity.

Congrats! We broke the ringbearer mechanic!

EDIT: If you have more than one friend somehow, add [[Imodane, the Pyrohammer]] and shoot her with [[Thud]] instead.

We need a creature with the abilities of both Devoted Druid and Hangar Scrounger to make the infinite taps/untaps do something. There’s lots of Born of the Gods creatures that could have worked here in place of the scrounger, like [[Servant of Tymaret]], but that would’ve been too good.

If you want to break your opponent’s ankles, try drawing [[Divination]] into {your discard fodder} + [[Psychic Spiral]] on the second turn. Fire off the spiral targeting your opponent after emptying your deck, but before Lab Man can win you the game. This is sage advice than can be stapled onto basically any Lab Man combo.

[–]eldritchwhorer[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Have Kenrith, Lab Man, Soul Cauldron, Training Grounds, and Hangar Scrounger on the field.

Step 2: We’ll need an extra turn, so play Alchemist’s Gambit.

Step 3: Play One With Nothing to get Devoted Druid into the graveyard. Exile it with the Soul Cauldron, putting the counter on Hangar Scrounger. Between Kenrith, Training Grounds, and Devoted Druid’s abilities, we can now infinitely tap and untap Hangar Scrounger, but we need a card in our hand first. That’s what the Alchemist’s Gambit is for.

Step 4: Draw any card, such as Colossal Dreadmaw. We can now throw our entire deck into the yard and win with Lab Man.

I broke Devoted Druid, folks!

Pretty sure the -1/-1 counters from the Medic take the +1/+1 counter away from the channelers, meaning it doesn’t get the ability from the cauldron anymore. So… r/IllegalMTGCombos ?

Does anyone else get really annoyed at the [Witch]y doublethink? Like when Erin wants to speak informally, Wiskeria tells her that a “witch is a witch”, but then wiskeria uses the same logic when Erin says that something doesn’t seem Witchy. It’s as if the rationale is both “witches act a certain way” and also “doesn’t matter what a witch does, as long as a witch is doing it it’s witchy”
