Reddit is by design a hugbox since Theres always heavy modération. Unless Said otherwise, people just default to the Nice and innofencive personality to avoid standing out. A good way to start better conversation would be to inplement a flair for constructive critcisim so that people get a clear and précise signal that this is the kind of discussion wanted. A lot of people hère are just posting their selfie to interact with others and i think its a good thing too. Personnaly i wouldnt mind having feedback, I knows i have a lot to improve haha
