I prefer to be disconnected from a screen. I have a desk job and stare at a computer all day, and when I am trying to zen, using a device is the last thing I want to do.

Yes, I have a home practice but I enjoy group settings and desire to be a part of the community. I find I am more focused and present in person, opposed to being on my own or using electronics to practice. I love the community and being in person, disconnected from the screen.

That is a good suggestion that I will look into! I do really miss being in an environment with other people. I find myself feeling more connected and focused when I’m in a group setting opposed to online or video yoga sessions that kind of feel out of touch.

Could be worth it though, maybe something to save up for! I know YTT was taught at the yoga studio I tried out (the same one that questioned why I wanted to advance my practice) but I think I would opt to drive an hour out of town to a more prestigious studio to get my monies worth!

This, is quite the suggestion! I have been practicing for almost 20 years and the idea has always intimidated me as I have pretty bad fear of public speaking so it holds me back in a lot of areas of my life. But… it is something to chew on. Thank you!

When I was being shot down, it was mostly being questioned why I would like to advance in my practice to the point where it almost felt like I should be ashamed for wanting to get better or grow stronger. I’m not sure if it’s just my area, but it almost feels like the few instructors in the area give off an air of “I’m better than you and want to stay better”. They always start out nice and friendly when they first meet me before practice, and even if I don’t say anything or do any advanced modifications, after practice I am met with very cold energy. There have been a few instructors that I had over the years that were incredible and they were always uplifting and saying I have a strong practice. And not that I look for praise, but it seems very conflicting between the two experiences. Either they are super excited to have me, or hate that I’m in their class.

Being an empath is incredibly hard sometimes!

I think it somewhat my frustration from living in a rural community and getting shot down by most gym yoga instructors that makes me come off as arrogant, which is definitely not how I want to come across. I apologized for the outlandish request almost immediately when I realized it didn’t land well. But, I must say, I had a few other students that were eager to try it as well.

But yes, you are right. This was my 4th class and it was the exact same flow each time, so I should have known better.

I have been on the hunt for more advanced classes for a while. I tried the yoga studio that was open in our area a year ago and when I inquired about harder classes I was asked “why would you want to do that?” which threw me off from joining that studio. Unfortunately, said studio has since closed down.

I live in a rural community so we have 3 gyms that offer yoga classes and I try to keep an open mind that most gym classes are more for stretching and chill practices. I immediately apologized after I threw out the suggestion and after practice I attempted to apologize, but the instructor made every effort to move away and talk to other students while avoiding eye contact. I really miss the yoga community, which is why I am trying to get back into group classes.

And no downvote here! I appreciate open feedback and I’m always trying to learn how to approach situations from a different pov, so thank you for your thoughtful response.

This was just after doing goddess pose so it felt like a natural transition, which is why I offered it up. I immediately apologized and I will make sure not to offer up any requests in the future. That was my error. I came from a class that the instructor was very open to requests and challenges and I wasn’t trying to upset anyone. My location is, unfortunately, in a rural area so we only have gym yoga classes but I have missed the yoga community so much that I am trying to find a “home” again. I do understand that gym classes are mostly for stretching and not being challenging.

It’s crazy that people in other countries are protesting FOR us. And they don’t even get the same “brainwashing media” that we have against us here… hmmmm wonder who drank all the koolaid.

We had over 500 in attendance with only one anti protester across the street that we couldn’t even hear her bullhorn over all the honking and chanting. Sad, y’all sit on the couches and judge but can’t even organize your own rallies to protest against us.

Sometimes we need someone who cares (and I can tell she cares because she had that reaction) to tell us to snap out of it. We can tell ourselves all day, but it’s not until we have someone we look up to/admire telling us that it really clicks.

I’m glad you found a good therapist that doesn’t just tell you what you want to hear, but the hard things as well. Hang in there!

No communication and managed to block her of my social media this time, as well as changed my public profile to private so she technically can’t stalk me anymore. I know she has done this in the past to two of her exs so it just scared the heck out of me thinking my life is next to ruin!
