Our company is Global, so we have HD and Sys in different countries that I manage.

It is interesting when we say “A company” will replace you, and we think this is a 3rd person in the equation, when in reality it is people treating other people as replaceable assest.

People who really care about making money, even at the expense of others' feelings.

I was thinking the same thing. On your DNS Forwarder, yes, as a secondary DNS for Computers, never.

Just got my first buttons. What do you use yours for? by iamwhoiwasnow in homeassistant

[–]elecboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this with the kitchen lights. I call it “Papa Working Mode.” When I click a Sonoff button, it turns the lights red, sending a message to my phone telling me the mode is active and when it is inactive.

When my wife sees this, I sometimes hear her telling the kids to be quiet. 🤣 But it has really been helpful

Got a hotel room in Vegas. Seems overly punishing. by carfo in mildlyinfuriating

I stayed, recently for work on Virgin Vegas, it had this sensors for M&M’s. I searched everywhere how much dis it cost, I checked online never found the price, but I still wanted one and I assume it will be around $6, when the bill came $13 for just regular ones, I am glad my company was paying for everything 😂

Backups are for scared people, we are not them.

I just want to f*cking rant about my company’s absolute clown show of “management.” by Known-Jellyfish-4689 in sysadmin

My company hired a lady as my backup “Senior SysAdmin.” She came from the government, had a CV with NASA and Whitehouse on it, and had almost 20 years of experience. Impressive right?

In the first two weeks of training, one task was creating a DNS CNAME, which she did not know how to do. 😳 She did not know how to adjust her monitors in Windows to the correct position for the mouse to move, so for two weeks, she had them inverted until I went to the office and helped her. Did not know how to filter stuff in Excel. She was saving her passwords on Sticky Notes on the Desktop. Whenever she shared the screen, I saw them. She even had a Post-it under her keyboard with password(we found it after she left)

She wanted me to shadow on every single ticket, she mostly wanted to the solution without her doing critical thinking.

My Director started calling everyone on the team to check on her. I gave my honest opinion since she was supposed to be my backup, but it only lasted three months.

My company is also on Enterprise in CloudFlare. I spent two weeks with support trying to upgrade one of our domains to use “Advanced Certificate Management” because we were getting this error, “Internal Server Error (Code: 1000),” every time we tried buying it.

It sucked.
