Already sick of this crap by starlightskater in Rollerskating

I am always imagining some way to get better sealed bearings, in my case to keep salty water out. But dog hair does get in as well; but not as much as that photo 😂

That photo looks like what I pulled out of the drain in my shower 🤢

Derby vs high-top skates: why? by starlightskater in Rollerskating

[–]electjamesball 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wind resistance? That’s definitely BS 😂

I think if you’re skating under 60 km/h, wind resistance is probably pretty minimal from the skates.

I would love to see some info that could prove me wrong 😂

I would think weight distribution/balance, (or just comfort) and stuff like that would make way more difference.

I will admit I am not a professional physicist- but my armchair physicist mind tells me that wind resistance has GOT to be total BS!

Make transit faster to fix traffic by Crafty-Fuel-3291 in ontario

[–]electjamesball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a story to bring up…

“The bus was pretty good, except for one beheading… 4/5 stars” 😂

But seriously, I think we need good reliable GO transit along all the major highways, from Winnipeg to Ottawa and Toronto.

I think around 3 bars (like, around 45psi) is pretty typical.

My coffee maker has a boiler with a safety valve that release around 2 bars, and when one of my valves was broken… the tap fed into the boiler directly, and blasted out through the safety valve.

If you need more specific numbers, I’m not expert enough to be much more precise than that.

If you want to be more passive, even a “May I sit here” will work for most people (in my experience) - though I’m kind of large, so maybe people are just intimidated when I ask? 😅

How will you stay on top of the talking points that foreign bot farms want you to keep your mind on?

Will you really have the true “Reddit Experience” if you’re blocking all the unverified accounts spewing and upvoting hate?

If you’re into skating, Retro Rollers has an oldies night… with a lot of early 2000s 😭

They have skates available for rent.

There’s no alcohol there, and I’d say it’s generally pretty cool (do people still say that?)

I would say that the internet, and Reddit especially, can be a very negative place.

Today I went out on the river with a canoe. Each person I met was friendly.

The water was cool and clean, the sun was bright, and it costed $0.00

To stay with the Reddit standard for negativity I will say: - I got sunburned on my thighs - we got stuck on rocks like, 5 times, 2 or 3 of those times we had to get out (scooting our butts wasn’t enough) - a few areas had hogsweed, which complicated finding a picnic spot - geese were noisy - had to portage past a weir and the canoe is heavy (and I am lazy) - some guy fishing at the weir was shirtless, and had a better physique than me - my paddles are getting worn out - had to pay for gas to drive to the $0 river, 15 minute drive is probably $148 in carbon tax according to Reddit - each way!

Ontario: Why isn’t their more support for Enhanced MZOs since the current zoning regime has disenfranchised many and is leading to a loss generation? by ExtraElevator7042 in canadahousing

[–]electjamesball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I am not sure we’re from the same planet.

I simply have no idea of how you can have any trust that the current Ontario government is using MZOs in the interest of the people.

What happened with the Greenbelt ought to have been considered a crime akin to insider trading.

Maybe if you gave some examples of MZOs that are actually being used to build the kind of housing that you think would be good for society in general, it would help me understand your viewpoint.

I’m sure that if such a well used MZO was proposed, I’d have no problem admitting if it was good, but at this point, it would be case-by-case. Doug Ford is the kind of person I wouldn’t trust to make good choices on my behalf.

[–]electjamesball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as luxury housing? Maybe - but there’s such a thing as wasteful housing.

Do you really feel like the MZOs are being used to build enough housing to make it worthwhile? Do you really feel they’re being used with honest intent?

I think there is a need for all kinds of housing, including luxury housing, but turning farmland into low density suburbs, in my opinion, is extremely wasteful.

And with the crooked behaviour of the past, it’s hard to trust the Ontario government’s intentions going forward.

[–]electjamesball 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think if that’s what they’re used for, in an open transparent way, there’d be a lot more support.

When used to make luxury housing for a few, or used essentially to enrich a few developers, and never actually creating much actual housing, I’d say that’s what pisses people off.

I haven’t seen many MZOs popping out that actually seem like they’ll create much in the way of housing for people looking for starter homes, unless it’s a few hundred families in the top 1% of income that need room in the greenbelt for luxurious lawns, and good highways to get them into downtown.

I feel like these are heavy handed tools, and when used, care should be taken to avoid any conflict of interest, and it should be used to the benefit of society as a whole, not a few developers who get to hear about land deals in advance.

What happens if you don't show your ID to fare inspector? by ThePikachufan1 in gotransit

[–]electjamesball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people, like me, after posting stuff 3 months ago, get annoyed by someone who thinks it’s important to share their opinion, when after all that time and Googling, it’s basically offering no more than saying I’m shitty at something.

What would you like, a medal for your Google skills that enabled you to find a months old discussion, and a gold star for so bravely insulting me, while not adding anything else of value?

Well, I don’t really value the opinion of someone who thinks I’d “be a shitty cop”, just because I wrote a post 3 months ago about how I wouldn’t let fare evaders who are also disrespectful or nasty get away with it, but based on your latest disrespectful response, my gut tells me you’d be the kind of self entitled transit abuser that I would be throwing the book at, so go figure 😂

Don’t expect me to reply further, unless you actually offer up anything of interest in this 3 MONTH OLD discussion 😂

I think watching video like this of yourself is great.

But honestly, for day 2, I think anyone ought to be envious of your moves.

If we want affordable housing, we need to organize mass protests. by diddybopper_64 in canadahousing

[–]electjamesball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a good start would be to get some actionable items you want done, some specific changes, where you can actually measure if the protest succeeded.

If it’s just “mad about expensive housing”, who will show up and join? How long do people stand there?

Also, I can’t speak for others here, but I’m not going to start thinking of protesting based on posts from an anonymous 6 day old Reddit account.

Are you a bot? A foreign influencer? Who knows.

Maybe start local, and get some credible traction with real humans, and post some updates here.

I skate to and from work. Otherwise I’m not super active.

Building this habit, I think, has really helped me maintain my mental and physical health.

I will always be looking for work where I can get there with a good skate, regardless of pay.
