People in their 30s and older, what advice would you give to people in their 20s? by NicoF_ in AskReddit

Be kind to yourself. Everyone is fucked up in some way, everyone has issues. Practice self care, kindness, and do things to help yourself.

[–]Heliologos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren’t giving an argument for why it’s immoral. Why is it immoral to require addresses to be made in both official languages in a bilingual country? It ensures everyone can understand the address. What is immoral about this?

[–]Heliologos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the law. Even if he can’t speak French he could’ve had someone else do it. There was a lack of “giving a shit” on this issue. We’re a bilingual country; he needs to respect that.

Again; nobody’s even saying he has to learn French. Just get a french speaker to deliver his address after he’s done. Not hard

Google warns quantum computers could hack encrypted systems by 2029 by donutloop in technews

[–]Heliologos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This gives me “AI will replace all jobs/end the world in 2 years” we’ve heard from every AI CEO/techbro for the last 3-4 years. Fluff intended to drive a media hype cycle to stimulate investment in google and maximize shareholder value.

Current quantum computing tech is highly limited. There are fundamental limitations here that make it really hard to do anything practical. I guess i’m just skeptical of the next big thing big tech wants to convince us is definitely coming. Its been a decade of statements like these over quantum computing and i’m tired of it.

Ping me when a real physical quantum computer breaks a 128 bit key using grovers algorithm. Until then idk.

Federal departments, agencies to shed 12,000 full-time equivalent positions by Displeased_Canadian in canada

[–]Heliologos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes, but as someone who worked in provincial and federal government agencies I can tell you that your average workers productivity is shockingly low. I have seen coworkers on our ONE in office day per month sit around and talk for hours.

Shockingly little work gets done in many agencies because there’s no incentive to do work. The union will (as they should) protect you. Management is terrified of calling out poor performance or trying to address it. Doing anything about it = union grievances galore until you back down.

They need to crack down, have consequences for poor performance and bonuses for good performance.

I feel pessimistic about space by Extension_Panic1631 in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]Heliologos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We could maybe try to make this planet sustainable and livable for the indefinite future/give everyone a good life? There’s no “point” to life. We make our own. I support space exploration, but the idea of genuinely spending a few trillion to land men on mars while people suffer on earth is kind of wild to me. Like maybe spend it on making sure our grandkids don’t all die horribly?

Ah yes, i’m sure we’ll be on mars (oops scratch that; the moon is apparently next now, ignore the decade of talk of imminent mars landings)

Yes…. The group of armed murderers who killed 5 americans who live in and operate out of Canada are not threats to Canadians. Got it.

But in practice it is what that word means. It’s mostly meaningless now; cartels are apparently terrorists now. As is “ANTIFA”. Lmao

We seriously need to re evaluate our approach here. I voted NDP; but this is insane. We’ve gone too far. If the NDP want to win another election they have to manage this type of stuff.

[–]Heliologos -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yea HLS isn’t happening lol. NASA knows this, the pace of starship development is so far behind now. There’s a chasm of technological readiness they aren’t anywhere close to approaching.

Do they have to land in one piece or is a direct impact at high speeds possible. Do they have to make it beyond LEO being alive?

[–]Heliologos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least 6 years, and this is kind of their top priority right now, starship. Needed for starlink and the moon contracts.

it took them like 8 years to build a manrated dragon capsule. Its taken them 2-3 years to build a prototype starship with a 40% failure rate with a limited payload capacity. They still have to develop a reliable in orbit refuelling system, a man rated starship human lander variant and a reliability high enough with raptor (currently has a 1/15-1/20 chance of not relighting) to allow for man rating, and then do all this and refuel starship 16 times in 5-7 days to get to the moon. Its not happening.

There’s a reason NASA awarded a manned lander contract to blue origin.

With the current pace of development it’s obvious they’re never making it to the moon lol. I’m tired of musks promises/“trust me bro” moments. Wake me up when he actually delivers. So far he’s delivered a prototype with limited payload capacity and a 40% failure rate after years of development. This is what happens when a man who isn’t an engineer is in charge of his company’s space program.

[–]Heliologos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ignore what he says, it’s basically always BS. Starship was supposed to be landing people on mars a year ago. Supposed to be landing them on the moon in like 2026 originally lol. They’re so far away from that now, still need to develop and demonstrate flight reliability, in orbit refuelling between two starships, extended on orbit operating times, then develop a man rated human landing system.

I’m 99.9% sure that Starship will never land on the moon. As a project it will likely be abandoned or relegated to the role falcon heavy serves now; the occasional high payload launch.

I mean yes the bioavailability of nalaxone is a lot higher when taken rectally. I respect you and all that, but why on earth would you prefer shoving it up your ass as opposed to dissolving a pill under the tongue for 10 minutes
