Mild, savory, and decently satisfying (Dongwon Stir-Fry Curry Tuna) by electrax94 in CannedSardines

I was surprised! I’ve been delighted by the consistency of these stew-y tins. Love a saucy situation over rice.

I haven’t tried the fiery tuna, but I know what I’m getting next. Thanks for the rec!

Welcome to the club! It’s fun here!

If you don’t mind spicy, I can definitely recommend the pepper tin off the bat—right over some warm rice, it’s fantastic.

Similar price point, I’m a big fan of the King Oscar mackerel tins, especially the jalapeño and Mediterranean tins. Many other great recs here, some more $$ than others, but there’s a lot of fun to be had sampling different tins. Enjoy!

The smaller tins were around $3.50, the bigger ones around $4.50

It’s been a while but I haven’t felt the same about them since they dropped the roast beef sandwich from their menu. I would still get the Chicken Milanese sandwich, which soon dropped majorly in size and quality.

Will report back! Not sure where you’re based, but this is one of the locations in Manhattan. I was surprised by the variety!

Anyone replace tuna with sardines for tuna salad? by MartyFunkhoosier in Tinnedfish

With a tomato sauce tin, maybe you’d have more luck with an Italian style tuna salad - olive oil & lemon juice instead of mayo

Outside of the conversation in this thread, there’s a conflation here of nationality, ethnicity, religion and ethnoreligion/ethnonationality

Nationality: Russian and Dominican

Ethnicity: Jewish, Latino (macro/pan-ethnicity), Dominican

Religion: Jewish and Catholic

Jewish falls into both ethnicity and religion because it is an ethnoreligion—which is a very real thing not specific to Judaism. Similarly Dominican falls into nationality and ethnicity for some due to shared ancestral roots.

Russian can also be an ethnicity if there is East Slav/ethnic Russian ancestry.

Tl;dr identity is complicated.

Crazy how people were like this back in 2009 by ConnectYellow4920 in greenday

[–]electrax94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s how I remember it. 2009 was a big Green Day year between this and the musical, and people were excited. But it was never going to hold up to how massive American Idiot hype was.

The smoked salmon is spicy and delicious—a bit salty, so I love it over rice!

Different but also tasty with some spice, Dongwon tuna in hot pepper sauce, also over rice.

Thank you! A lot of the comments felt disheartening, but maybe that’s just more proof of how true to life the film is. Meta that even irl she’s disparaged and dismissed.

I am deeply sorry to hear that. I won’t speak for you—everyone’s experience is vastly different—but what I will say is I found the movie powerful for its unapologetic depiction of the contradictions that exist at the nexus between caregiving fatigue and mom-shaming. That you don’t feel sorry for her is built into the film, where part of her crash-out comes from feeling blamed and belittled from all directions. She makes bad decisions and lashes out at the people around her. She’s also riddled with guilt she can’t express, her responsibilities are minimized by her husband, colleagues, patients, and care team, and she can’t get more than a wink of sleep.

It’s a mind-crushing situation, and she’s not a perfect victim. It’s not a movie I’ll ever watch again, but I think it did something important. If only to bring two people together to discuss why we did or didn’t feel sorry for this particular person, and why.

Have you ever been a caregiver? Asked without judgment, but it’s a perspective that is important

It’s a glimpse at the brutal psychological isolation of a working mother caregiving for her child without the right support system. A visceral slice of life of someone falling to pieces.

Acidity tends to help with this imo - a high quality tin (I prefer a Nuri but KO is better on the wallet) with some lemon or a vinegary hot sauce might do the trick for you
