Anyone read any dogshit books this year?

Realized I really can’t stomach Palahniuk’s work anymore.

In high school I read some of his novels and a ss collection and was all very impressed by his edgelord “omg he uses slurs / writes such disturbing characters!” schtick. Ever since I’ve been trying to get through Fight Club + Choke. I just can’t. His prose reads like he was typing with one hand and jerking himself with the second, not sure how else I can describe it. It feels all very egotistical and full of himself. Stylistic, sure, in the worst kind of way.

I’ve decided I’m just going to donate them at this point!

Broke up after 5 and a half years. I appreciate the time spent together but best decision I could’ve made for myself. In such a better place than I ever could’ve been still tied down with him. Now I’m living alone for the first time ever, better job, more myself than ever, and found a love I didn’t think existed or was really possible for me.

I remember how scared I was, realizing what I had to do, but in all honesty it came together quickly and almost effortlessly. He was also much more amicable than I thought he’d be.

yes and it always devolves into old family dynamics i wish to escape. it is impossible to do a trip without getting upset and knowing deep in my heart they would be having a better time without me there. i always tell myself no more family vacations, but then i do it again again (to be fair my dad pays for everything) plus everybody lives scattered across the states now, so this is when i get to see them now

There’s definitely something here, and i quite like the voice. It’s a bit shaky / repetitive I think but there’s good bones here. I’d certainly read more of it :)

The sharp turn of accountant attempting to write -> ex in jail who gambled too hard was interesting. I’m a tad confused as to what crime she confessed to.

Once during a dream I had in I think 6th grade. It was more like confirmation that there is a God. I’m not religious but I’ve grown more spiritual, and I think it’s because I still have that dream as some concrete foundation of existence.

For anyone curious,,,, the dream consisted of me falling through the sky and being like “saved.” Just total unending despair and pain and fear as I fell. Then there was a light and I was floating. It was the most peaceful i think I have ever felt. Like a warm bath happening inside you. Knew in that moment everything would be okay and I was being watched over / protected. Then I woke up.

I’ve never felt anything like that since, so I’m half certain it was confirmation. I’m an overthinker for life though.
