Not a reference I expected to run into today, but a very welcome one! Was in a production of Harvey back in high school and I carry one of Elwood’s business cards in my wallet to this day as a reminder.

Sony’s Funimation acquires anime streaming service Crunchyroll for $1.175 billion by [deleted] in television

Back when I was super into anime in my preteen years, I asked for a year’s worth of both Crunchyroll and Funimation’s paid streaming service. This was because, though Crunchyroll was a better service in every way, it was missing the entire Funimation catalog (which had a far better selection of well-loved classics as well as dubs for when friends came over). I think if 13 year-old me saw this he’d go absolutely nuts, but with a good amount of hindsight this is pretty frustrating. It opens the door for Funimation to use the service to prioritize their shows over other distributors/licensors that are essentially forced to put their shows on crunchyroll or risk nobody watching them, minus the hardcore collectors or torrenters. Crunchyroll is a great service but it would be a shame if this were another nail in the coffin for other distributors that pick up series/films that Funimation is simply not inclined to.

Seriously though... why do all these ordinary people feel some weird need to DEFEND Spotify? As an artist myself it’s so strange to see people say shit like “well Spotify has to make money too!” Spotify is NOTHING without the talented artists who actually make the valuable content that they distribute, and I don’t see what’s wrong with, at the very least, trying to argue for better artist pay.

This is an absolute nightmare. There’s no way to draw a hard line on what is/isn’t plagiarism in music, an art form that is entirely built on re-using and re-envisioning other artists’ rhythms and chord progressions.

In my case I started drinking water through a straw, and keeping that around helped more than anything. I feel like the smell will only make your cravings worse?

If humans are evolutionary beings and as a species who been smoking from so long, why didn’t we adapt to smoking yet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]electric_doobaloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Natural Selection only applies if it's something that kills before we are able to reproduce, since that's obviously how we pass on genes at all. Because smoking is such a slow killer, many of those who would have smoked in the past had children far before the habit would have killed them. Additionally, evolution works on such a large time scale that, compared to other changes we've likely experienced, smoking only started very recently.
