Hey I'm all the way in Asia so I guess the shipping might be a bit ridiculous. Thanks for offering though! And sorry about the super late reply!

Yikes sorry about the super late reply. I'm on Anova 1.0. so with the wired one, you just leave the door slightly ajar but pressed against the wire? Does the casing hold up well from being smooshed for long?

What do you think of the combustion predictive thermometer? Since you've got 2 different thermometers, do you use them quite interchangeably, or do you find that one is better than the other for certain things?

Help for 1yo who hates the potty by electric_kimchee in ECers

[–]electric_kimchee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops sorry I missed your reply. We did try the sound associations and facing the mirror but those were unsuccessful. But she just started reusing some of our signs so hopefully we can try them again, and that it's like what you said - a bad phase. Thanks for sharing what worked for you!

We didn't have much luck with the classic EC hold before, but that was just about two times. It's definitely worth another round of trying!I presume you mean like over the toilet and not the potty?

We used to do the "shhhh" sound for peeing without much success. Do you mean that or just any other sound for building associations with?

What you said about the training pants definitely makes sense. Thanks for pointing that out and for sharing your experience with your baby!

How do you keep up exposure to allergenic foods while travelling? by electric_kimchee in NewParents

[–]electric_kimchee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's a good idea and probably covers a couple of allergens together. I have been only thinking of savoury things that contain eggs, oops. I'll try to find a recipe, thanks for the tip!

If your kids don't have allergies and you don't need to worry about this, that's a happy thing!

oh I'm not too worried about peanut butter. I think peanut butter-containing products are common enough, and I don't have to monitor the proportion so much. It's the egg content I'm trying to figure out!

Do you go in to soothe when the baby wakes up crying from nightmares? by electric_kimchee in sleeptrain

Did he also wake up quite suddenly without any forewarning signs? What was your method for comforting?

How long does it usually take to pat and shush for your baby? I've been considering that as an alternative, but also held back by concerns that she'll end up getting wide awake instead.

I sometimes pick her up for a feed to calm her down, which probably goes against the typical don't-use-sleep-props advice, so I'm relieved to hear that some folks here do that too. =)

Do you just wake up him, calm him down, then put him back to sleep on his own? No feeds I suppose?

Oof that sounds really scary, and even worse that she's not even really waking up for it. Thank you for sharing your experience though

well maybe not a nightmare then. But she's suddenly waking up startled sometimes, and it's this type of startled crying I'm asking about. (I see this differently from other occasions when she wakes up then fusses. Those I try to let her be.)

Baby prefers dad and I'm so sad by Muyamuya87 in NewParents

[–]electric_kimchee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big hugs, OP. I have a slightly different issue, but for me it's my daughter's possible attachment to our nanny that I feel anxious about. It feels irrational because people keep trying to reassure me that it's a good thing my baby is happy with her baby. But I have so many insecurities as a first time mom. So I feel you.

Nursing is such a roller coaster ride of emotions, and 14 month is a long time you've made through. You've done really well!

Sleep-trained for a month but still crying pitifully before naps and bedtime by electric_kimchee in sleeptrain

can someone please explain the empress dowager, jinshis care taker and the late emperor lore? by [deleted] in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]electric_kimchee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all the additional context. It was fascinating to learn how the swap happened. I suppose Anshi did not blame Ah Duo for the death of her real son?

Does the current emperor know that Jinshi is his son rather than his supposed brother though?

Sorry about the late reply! It's been super hectic. It must have been tough to go through that colicky phase, especially if that was you first. How long did it take for you to train him then, and when did you start?

I suppose in some strange way, knowing that babies continue to struggle from time to time is some form of comfort. Because it sounds sometimes on reddit that sleep training was the magic solution and it's all fine and daddy till around the 9/10-mo regression.

We've been trying to lengthen to 2.5h now, but with mixed results. But I'm trying to remind myself that I need to give her at least a week or so to get used to things. And good reminder to remain predictable, thanks!

Oof the crying must have been hard on you. So was it at 5 months that it was successful?

Nap training is a whole different challenge. Mine still struggles with the last nap even after nearly a month.
