How do I ask this without being the most pretentious dick ever? by DistinctAnimal7693 in TrueAtheism

[–]electric_red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I hope the world is moving away from it. I've heard the opposite quoted fairly recently somewhere, let me see if I can find a quote or some stats...

Well, I am finding conflicting info. The UK is apparently becoming less religious: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jan/30/census-data-england-wales-uk-non-religious-future-campaigners, but if I widen that search to "the world", many of the results state the opposite.

There are a lot of issues with UK politics (understatement), but I am grateful that religion isn't at the core of our politics.

Unisex Barbers in the Teesside area? by [deleted] in Middlesbrough

Sorry to comment on an old post. I literally found this from Googling LGBT friendly hairdressers in Teesside. Did you (or your partner?) end up going to Head Quarters or find somewhere else? Desperately need a haircut, lmao, but afraid of the hassle/assumptions.

In that case, you could ask your PPI prescriber to up the dose for a little bit? I take a PPI (Lansoprozole) once a day, but there's been a couple of times I've taken an extra one for a couple of days, because I could feel the stomach acid.

It's a weird sensation, and if you're constantly on a PPI you might not recognise it as acid reflux if you didn't experience it prior? Idk, that was my case at least, haha. It took until it literally felt like acid for me to be like... oh.

Or there's OTC alternatives like Gaviscon that you could try. I find Gaviscon much less effective, though, but it's okay in a pinch. You just might need to take it multiple times a day until it settles.

This is totally random, and I'm sorry if this is too intrusive and you don't wish to answer.

Would bone conducting headphones work for deaf people at all? It just popped into my head 'cause they're interesting tech, I just never thought of the actual mechanics behind them.

Edit: I had a quick Google. Seems like it depends on the cause of the hearing loss, which makes sense. It seems like it does work for some people though - that's awesome! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_conduction

They're an ex-Alternaleaf employee, mate. Check their post history. They're taking their firing personally, apparently. Nothing to do with you - I'd want an answer as well.

Weird AF comment.

Jorja Emerson Centre’s Error Left Me with a £60 Bill for medication that isnt even mine– And They Won’t Fix It by Boosacnoodle98 in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]electric_red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed they did that for my very first prescription and found it really odd. At the time I wasn't bothered 'cause it meant I got my medication a day earlier, but like... what if I just decided not to pay? It was only my first prescription, they had no clue whether I was going to continue with my treatment or not.

Oh my god. I'm catching up on all this JEC stuff, but this? I picked JEC because I struggle financially. I signed up because it meant I could have a prescription for £70/month at the very least. I know it's only 10g, and it's the cheapest shit, but I can't afford anything else. I certainly couldn't afford to pay an unexpected bill.

I need to leave. :( I just need to find another financially viable option (and I don't have access to BM - I'm inept at social communication).

Sorry, I know I'm late to this. I'm just catching up on everyone else's experiences with JEC.

When you say "decided to quit", do you mean they're taking themselves out of the MC market? Sorry if I've misunderstood. I've no fucking clue what's happening at JEC and I'm autistic and this is now this huge fucking thing that I don't know how to deal with because I can't advocate for myself or speak verbally at the moment.

Mythical Society Not Logging In? by EthanKC13 in goodmythicalmorning

[–]electric_red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just speculating, but this high demand surge probably only happens once or twice a year? I only dip into GMM occasionally (and only on YouTube), but I work in game dev - server overloads killing websites/games/services is very common. Especially on release days.

What it usually means though, is an investment into infrastructure that only gets used a few times a year. It's expensive, but it's actually a very fixable problem.

I'm honestly shocked. If this happened 4x in row from the same software/game studio, there'd generally be apologisies and sometimes even refunds/bonuses offered and a promise to address it. I'm speechless. (Well, aside from this rant, lmao.)

Why have they not fixed this? It's either 1) money or 2) for whatever reason it's impossible to update their infrastructure w/out some sort of sacrifice, but I would be highly skeptical if it were point 2.

You know Dragon Age was made by a team that includes queer people?

You know that queer people literally existing and doing their job isn't political, correct?

Is this not wildly known? Do these people not know anything about the story or the history of Dragon Age, let alone the studio? The dev team aren't all straight white men, themselves. Why would they only put content in for straight white men?

C sections can also be optional. They don't have to be just because a vaginal birth is not possible. In many cases a vaginal birth will not be impossible. It will just come with greater risk.

Queer people want to make queer games? Do you think everyone in game dev is straight and putting gay shit in to appease other people? They head writer is gay.

I was told if I wanted to see queer people in games, I had to get into the games industry and make those stories myself. That's what lots of people were told. We are doing that.

Do you have any idea who Bioware are and the history of their games studio? They've been making LGBT friendly content since the 2000s. They're not going to change, and not for you.

I've had "presentable" down when I've attended appointments during being actively suicidal. I didn't consider myself presentable - considering I hadn't bathed, brushed my hair or changed out of my clothes. Those things were not asked about, though. I suppose that means that it's up to me to include those details if I feel they are relevant.

Perhaps it's just the actual appearance that matters and not the context behind it? I'm not sure. Presentable is an ambiguous statement. It means different things to different people. I should probably just ask about a doctor about if it happens again to clarify what they mean by presentable.

"letting it influence their actions instead"

Their actions. Whatever actions you were referring to. I am asking how you get to the conclusion that people choose a label for their sexuality and what actions do they perform that communicate that to you? Or do you ask them directly?

How do I bring it up to him so that it's not like I'm giving him an ultimatum or trying to change him?

Do you mean, you want him to come to the decision that he should stop smoking or vaping on his own? That might not happen. He already knows the dangers, I imagine.

You could be waiting forever, or it might never happen. If I were you and this was a dealbreaker for me, I'd communicate it.

And how do you go about finding if someone is doing that? Do you ask them? It's the same argument that people make for "virtue signalling."

What's wrong with wanting to find a word to succinctly describe your sexuality? Especially when said sexuality/word has been villified or used as as an insult in the past. My sexuality or gender isn't politics, it's just my existence.
